Quick info
About Donaghy's Fish & Chips
Donaghy's Fish & Chips is a family-run fish and chips takeaway at 50A Clooney Terrace in Londonderry. The kitchen works with boneless cod, and the fish is battered to order and served with chips as a fish supper or cod supper. A battered sausage supper sits alongside it for those who want something other than fish. Gluten-free orders are offered on certain days, cooked in a separate area with dedicated fryers, which gives customers who need gluten-free food a setup kept apart for their order. The shop is walk-in, with ordering at the counter. Paying by card means downloading the app and ordering online.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the fish, with the battered cod described as crispy, succulent and breaking apart easily, and a battered sausage supper also earns praise. Chips split opinion: some call them crispy outside and soft in the middle, while another reports soggy, undercooked, mushy chips on every visit. Gluten and dairy free diners are a strong point, with one describing staff who showed the batter and curry ingredients and used separate fryers, and another noting gluten free options on certain days. The complaints are about service and orders. One reviewer left without ordering after being ignored at the counter, another says two fish suppers arrived with only a few chips and no peas, and the owner's response on the phone was rude. A third was handed a small handful of chips from a large order by a teenager who refused to adjust it, and another says parts of orders are frequently forgotten. One reviewer defends the shop, pointing to a sign saying refunds are only given if food is returned.

“Can't actually comment on the food, as the service was that bad, I got ignored for so long that I left without ordering. When I first entered, no staff acknowledged me. Gave benefit of doubt thinking maybe they were very busy with deliveries or online orders. I realised while waiting that to pay by card you needed to download the app and order online. Stood that long waiting to be acknowledged that I was able to download the app and try order on it. I just had a question before I completed my order so was wanting to speak to a staff member. In the meantime another customer walked in and joined me at the counter, eventually a member of staff walked over and went straight to take the other customers order. I thought ok fine he'll now acknowledge me after mistakenly taking the other customers order first. Nope, he continued to ignore me and walked away again. I left and went to country fried chicken a few doors up and had brilliant service.”

“Outstanding crispy fish. Delicious chips, crispy outsides and soft middle, perfect portion sizes. Fish is the star, perfectly battered to order, in oil not dripping. Succulent cod breaks apart easily. Will be having salad and fish on next visit 😆 🤣”
