Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the lamb and rice dishes, led by the Kabuli pilau with its tender meat and the juicy, slightly charcoal-flavoured lamb chops. Close behind are the chapli kebab and grilled chicken, with chicken charsi karahi, chicken tikka and biryani also named. Several describe generous portions, good value and welcoming staff, and one first-time Afghan diner calls the tenderness of the meat out of this world. Other reviewers describe the room as clean and homely. One recent reviewer reports a very different Saturday evening: an empty dining room, almost half the menu unavailable, dry naan that hardened within minutes, spicy rice served despite a request for no spice, a forgotten glass of water, and all courses arriving at once. The same reviewer reports flies in the restaurant, including one in a mango lassi. Among the happier accounts, a diner finished the meal with karak chai and Afghan pudding.

“I first visited this restaurant around 2.5 years ago and the experience was completely different. Returning on a Saturday evening, I was surprised to find the restaurant completely empty. Unfortunately, I quickly found out why. The two staff members at the front showed very little interest in serving customers. We were then told that almost half the menu wasn’t available because the kitchen didn’t have the ingredients, as the restaurant is apparently closing down and they’re no longer preparing full stock. Hygiene was another major concern. The place was full of flies and mosquitoes, with one fly landing straight into my partner’s mango lassi (see photo). I genuinely felt sorry for it as it struggled through the thick drink 😬much like I struggled to get through the disappointing meal. Everything arrived at once; starters, mains and drinks, making the whole meal feel rushed. They even forgot a simple request for a glass of water. The naan was dry and became rock hard within minutes, and despite specifically asking for “no spice at all”, they still served spicy rice. The bill was only a small fraction of what I normally spend eating out, but even at that price the food and service were nowhere near acceptable. It’s disappointing to see how far this place has declined since my first visit. Sadly, I won’t be returning nothing I want to remember.”

“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My wife and I recently visited Yadgar in Harlesden and had a fantastic experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff were welcoming, friendly, and attentive, making us feel right at home. The food was absolutely delicious, full of flavour, and cooked to perfection. Every dish we ordered was fresh, well-presented, and generously portioned. You can really tell that they take pride in the quality of their food. The restaurant itself was very clean, comfortable, and had a warm, homely atmosphere that made our meal even more enjoyable. The excellent service combined with the amazing food made for a great dining experience. We left extremely happy and will definitely be returning. Highly recommended to anyone looking for great food and outstanding hospitality in Harlesden!”

“Drove passed this resturant and didn’t think anything of it at first and I must say I was shocked and left speechless by the food and customer service. The young boy went above and beyond to welcome us and to get the ‘homely’ experience. Couldn’t fault the food one bit, and that is genuinely speaking from someone who runs a food business. Homely yet still tasty food. The kabuli pilau was 10/10 and the lamb chops was juicy and succulent with the slight charcoal flavour. I must say if they keep this up they will get far with their business. May Allah bless their business with a lot of Barakah.”
