About Sam's Cafe Primrose Hill
Sam's Cafe Primrose Hill is a restaurant on Chalcot Rd in London, open daily and serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The morning menu includes a full English with black pudding, bacon, mushrooms and homemade beans, as well as smashed avocado and egg on flatbread. Hot coffee, tea and orange juice are served alongside, and the cake selection includes lemon cake and orange polenta cake. In the evening, a vegan menu is available. The wine list is award-winning, with bottles chosen by specialists, so dinner has a drinks offering to match the food. The restaurant also takes private hire bookings for events, and cherry pie is on the menu for dessert.

Customer Review Summary
The full English is the dish reviewers name most, and verdicts are largely poor: burnt black pudding, oily mushrooms, overdone and dry bacon, and homemade beans in a tex-mex style. Praise goes to the sweets and coffee instead, with the cherry pie called outstanding and the orange polenta cake and frothy coffee singled out. Service splits sharply. Some describe a warm welcome, a server who checked on the vegan menu, and a treat for a soaked pug. Others report no greeting, a menu flung across the table, loud personal conversations among staff, and rushed, inattentive waiters. Several call the food expensive for small portions, such as a flatbread with smashed avocado and one egg that cost more than the advertised menu price. A few note slow food, including an orange juice that arrived long after the meal, and one reviewer found a gratuity added to the bill without consent.

“Greetings from Malaysia 🇲🇾 👋 Our friendly server Fatimah had went an extra miles to check for the availability of the vegan menu during dinner time. She had even adjusted my drinks to suit my tastebuds. Friendly staff. Me and my family had a wonderful dinner here. 👍”

“I had a really poor full English here last Sunday. The mushrooms were really oily, the bacon was really overdone and dry, the 'homemade' beans are almost in a tex-mex style, which although interesting, I didn't think really fit that well? And all that, for £17!! My orange juice came a long time after my food, despite ordering it at the same time. I don't normally leave reviews at all, but I was just so disappointed, I didn't have a choice.”

“Overpriced and very small portions. I paid £13.50 for a small piece of flatbread topped with smashed avocado and one egg. It was advertised as £12,so I was surprised to be charged more. The waiters were also not attentive, which made the experience even more disappointing. I wouldn't recommend it based on the value for money.”

“Dived in to escape a downpour and stayed for the warmth of the staff and hot frothy coffee (and cake)… What a lovely accidental find Sam’s is. We fell in the door, drenched with a very soggy dog. Made to feel welcome and looked after. Two great coffees made with care and even a lovely treat for the pug (thank you fo drying him and the sausage, Chelsea) orange polenta cake for us. Will be back soon and highly recommended to anyone - drenched or not 😌🙏 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️”
