About Sabiib Somali Restaurant - Harringay

Sabiib Somali Restaurant - Harringay is an East African restaurant in London at 5-6 Grand Parade, where the meal begins with a complimentary vegetable soup brought to the table. The kitchen slow-cooks its Xaniid lamb shoulder, which is the dish to look at first on the menu. Platters bring lamb and chicken together with rice, pasta, salad and bread. One platter is sized for two, and a larger one serves three or four people. Each platter comes with a choice of beef suqaar, busteeki or chicken suqaar. Dessert includes the Timir date cake. Customer Review Summary

Diners most often return to the shared Somali platter, built around lamb, with the slow-cooked Xaniid lamb shoulder described as soft and falling off the bone. It comes with rice, pasta, salad and flatbread, plus a choice of beef suqaar or chicken suqaar. Platters for two are repeatedly said to feed three or four. Close behind is the spiced Somali tea, called flavourful, piping hot and comforting, and one reviewer insists it is a must. Desserts follow, especially the date cake, along with a pancake and stuffed sabaayad. A complimentary vegetable soup opens the meal for several. Many first-time Somali diners say the staff guided them through the menu and describe the welcome as warm and kind. The one reservation comes from a reviewer who found the spiced coffee a bit odd. Several mention taking leftovers home, and one table was brought extra rice when they were nearly finished with theirs.

“I’m a bit of a regular taking new friends to this spot always. Food is always 10/10 and flavourful. The best Somali restaurant I’ve been too. Alvi and the curly haired Indian bloke is always giving great service and such a warm approach. Redwan was such a lovely helper in ensuring our time at this visit was great. He’s full of a bubbly personality and great hospitality manners. We had the beef suqaar and salmon with Somali rice.”

“Very pleasant experience. We had a shared platter which came with salad and bread, great taste and generous portion. Finished food with date cake which was just right. Spiced coffee was a bit odd. Staff were also very warm and nice.”

“Absolutely lovely meal and service was great. Alvi was our sever and was very polite and attentive. Portions are big, we were given vegetable soup which was superb, we ordered stuffed sabaayad and the mixed platter for 2 with lamb and chicken . This was easily more than enough for 3-4 people. The date cake and Shaah (spiced Somalian tea) was delicious. Highly recommend and delicious. If you are lucky enough to get Alvi as your waiter you are sure to have a great meal and service.”

“Soooo delicious — this was my first time trying Somali food and it definitely did not disappoint. The portions are very generous and the food was absolutely amazing. We ordered the platter for 3–4 people (there were three of us), which came with rice, pasta, saladata, and their signature Haniid slow-cooked lamb shoulder that literally falls off the bone. It was served with a fresh side salad and a choice of beef suqaar, busteeki, or chicken suqaar we chose the chicken suqaar. There was so much food left over that they kindly packed it up for us to take home. We also tried the desserts the Timir date cake and the pancake wow, both were so good. Definitely try the tea as well 🤌🏼 it’s a must. The staff were amazing from start to finish, really welcoming and attentive, and the décor was beautiful. Such a great experience overall, we’ll definitely be back”

“5 stars through and through. All the staff were super friendly and helpful, greeting with salaam every time they came to the table. The restaurant is so clean with a well kept sink for hand washing. The food is delicious, fresh and flavourful, without being too spicy for the kids. The complimentary soup is a generous and heart start to the meal. The desserts are hefty and so yummy without breaking the bank. One of my favourite items was the tea. Packed with flavour, piping hot and so comforting. Looking forward to our next visit already.”
