About Kiss the Koala

Kiss the Koala is a brunch restaurant in London, at 163 Priory Rd, where the team serves guests at the table in a physically small dining room. The Korean chicken waffle puts fried chicken on waffles and anchors the menu for anyone who wants a savoury main at brunch. Turkish eggs come with dill yoghurt, and Bobby's Bun is filled with eggs and hash browns. A full English breakfast covers the more traditional order. Coffee drinks and hot chocolate round out the list for the drinks side of the meal. Larger parties can call ahead.

Customer Review Summary

Korean chicken waffle is the dish reviewers return to most, praised for crisp, juicy chicken, a sweet and spicy sauce that is not too spicy, and a light, fluffy waffle. One reviewer, though, found the fried chicken and waffles dry and short on flavour, with cold waffles and a long wait. Close behind are the full English, where the mushrooms and bread stand out, along with the berry bowl, fries, sweetcorn fritters, smoked salmon and eggs, and a warm croissant with soft scrambled eggs. Coffee, including an extra hot cortado, mocha and hot chocolate, gets regular mention, and reviewers describe the staff as friendly and welcoming. The other complaints are specific. The Turkish eggs came with too much cold, minty dill yoghurt, and extras such as an additional sausage struck one reviewer as pricey. One reviewer finds the room loud and physically small, and says that makes calling ahead ideal for big groups. One diner's macchiato arrived as mostly milk foam, and the waitress added milk straight away.

“Very nice brunch location, staff are lovely and the food is great. It's very affordable for food you can pretty much not get anywhere in London easily. They've also resisted increasing prices the last year, especially for their staples and that's to be commended. Also a kids specific menu with lower prices and child portions is a godsend. However I find the environment can be a little too loud for my tastes especially when I'm just trying to have a quiet breakfast with my partner. This is however personal preference and on occasion I've found the liveliness enjoyable. This liveliness also means its ideal to call ahead, big groups especially as the restaurant is physically quite small. It does have outdoor seating though which is a plus. It is also just expensive, when you strip away the rarity of the food, it can be a pricy brunch out. It wouldn't be odd for a party of two getting a main and a drink to spend 20 - 30 pounds each. Overall well worth the money and time, just be aware of the other details.”

“We have wanted to go there for a while our friend a chef recommended the restaurant and has had the same dish (friend chicken on waffles) every time he visited. I had the same but my explanation is too simplistic, and under sells it. It was simply one of the best I have had and I have lived in the US for 18 years and this is my go-to brunch dish. Everything was great, food, service atmosphere and price”

“The place is quite busy and looking at other people plates the food seems very nice. We only had coffe, i had a macchiato, which i complained about as a macchiato is suppouse to have some milk inside too and not just milk foam. I was thinking to leave it as the taste was too awful. The waitress understood my disappointment and she offer to adjust it straight away adding milk to it. This way my macchiato was delicious !!!”

“Beautiful presentation, but sadly style over substance at Kiss the Koala. The fried chicken and waffles looked impressive on arrival, but the dish itself was disappointing, lacking flavour, noticeably dry, and served with waffles that were cold and tasted more like pre-packed than freshly made. The wait time was also much longer than expected, which made the experience feel even less worthwhile. At nearly £20 once extras like eggs are added, the pricing feels steep for the quality delivered. Visually stunning, but ultimately overpriced and underwhelming.”

“We have been coming to KTK since day 1. Beautiful and friendly staff (sisters Sophia and Emilia led by mum Beverley) plus Chief Barista Christina. My daily fix is an extra hot cortado made by Christina with a smile. I love the warm croissant with soft scrambled eggs here. You should also try the Bobby’s Bun with eggs and 2 hash browns. Ideal after a tough morning work out. Korean chicken naughty but very nice.”
