About HALFCUP KINGS CROSS

On Judd St in London, HALFCUP KINGS CROSS is an independent brunch restaurant built around an open kitchen, so guests can watch the chefs work while their plates come together. Chicken and waffles with honey leads the menu, with fried chicken and sauce served on the waffle. Pancakes, including a pumpkin version, and a full English breakfast with a hash brown sit alongside it. The kitchen also turns out a seasonal egg dish with sausage, kale and ricotta on sourdough. Drinks include smoothies, a banana matcha drink and flat white coffee, and freshly baked pastries, scones and muffins cover the lighter end of the menu. A queue forms at busy times, such as weekend mornings. Dogs are welcome, so owners can bring them along for brunch.

Customer Review Summary

Chicken and waffles is the dish diners raise most. One reviewer praises the tender, juicy fried chicken with its crispy coating, and another calls it insanely good, though one found the dish and the honey under the waffle too sweet. Close behind are the pancakes, including a pumpkin version, and a full English with a fresh hash brown, crisp bacon and delicate eggs. Others single out a seasonal fried egg dish with ricotta, sausage and kale on sourdough, a baked cheesecake, a flat white and a kale, mango and apple smoothie. One reviewer found the Banana Matcha very sweet as well. Queues come up repeatedly, with some saying the line moves fast and one suggesting booking if possible. One reviewer reports forgotten coffees and smoothies on a stretched day, and another wished the egg dish had arrived hotter. Staff are described as friendly, and one party was moved to a bigger table without having to ask.

“Beautiful place with amazing service. Didn’t have much room at the table we initially sat at but we were quickly moved to a bigger table without asking. Food and drinks both tasted amazing. Definitely a must try. 6/5 stars. Kishan you were amazing!”

“Lovely place for breakfast! The staff are incredibly attentive and friendly. The food was delicious and the coffee was superb! It’s easy to see why there was a queue outside, but don’t let that put you off as it moves very fast. Great food, service and atmosphere ❤️”

“The chicken and waffles were pretty good! The fried chicken was definitely the highlight—it was really tender and juicy, and the coating was nice and crispy. That said, the whole dish was quite sweet. Both the sauce and the honey under the waffle made it sweeter than I expected, and it got a bit overwhelming after a while. I found myself drinking water the whole time. If you don’t usually enjoy very sweet savory food, it might be a little too sweet for you. I also tried the Banana Matcha. It comes in a regular small cup. The matcha was just a small shot, while the banana layer at the bottom was very sweet. It tasted nice, but again, it was sweeter than I expected, and I kept needing water after every few sips.”

“We had breakfast this morning at Half Cup, King’s Cross, and it was easily one of the most memorable café experiences in London. From the moment we arrived right at opening time (8:00), we were welcomed with genuine warmth into a space that feels both relaxed and carefully designed. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance: informal enough to feel comfortable, yet curated with clear attention to detail. The menu is exceptional. You’ll find a proper classic English breakfast alongside incredible sweet options like fluffy pancakes, French toast, and freshly baked scones. Everything we tried felt freshly made and thoughtfully prepared, but the real standout for us was the most amazing baked cheesecake we’ve ever had—rich, balanced, and unforgettable. What also makes this place special is the open kitchen. Watching a highly skilled team of chefs work with such precision adds a real sense of energy to the experience. Just next to us, we could even see fresh muffins being taken out of the oven, still warm and perfectly golden. The pastry selection is clearly made fresh daily, and it shows in every bite. In short, this is not just a café—it’s a destination. Without exaggeration, it might be the best place for breakfast in all of London. Half Cup”
