Quick info
About Elliot's - Borough Market
A wood-fired grill drives the cooking at Elliot's, a modern European restaurant and wine bar on Stoney St in Borough Market, London. The seasonal menu splits between snacks and small plates such as Wood Fired Focaccia and Isle Of Mull Cheese Puffs, and larger grilled plates, with ox tongue, steak, mussels and chips among the recurring dishes and around 65 in all. Sourdough pizza comes from the same grill, including an aubergine version built on a long-fermented dough. Sunday lunch brings a roast with meat and sides. Alongside the food runs a long list of biodynamic and natural wines, and the team will talk through what is open by the glass. Brick walls frame a room with counter seating as well as tables, and further tables sit out on the street. It opens daily, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
The wood-fired pizza draws the most repeat attention, praised for its long-fermented sourdough dough and, by one reviewer living in Rome, rated better than many there, with an aubergine version singled out as full of flavour. Close behind sit the Isle of Mull cheese puffs, named approvingly in two accounts, and the garlic bread focaccia one diner calls pillowy and oozing with garlic butter, enough on its own to bring them back. Also praised: the wood-grilled Yorkshire venison chop, a juicy ox tongue, the best Sunday roast one couple has had in London, and a natural wine list servers walk guests through with genuine enthusiasm, several noting the staff have opinions and share them. The clearest complaint comes from one detailed account describing no structure to the service, with dishes arriving individually at scattered intervals so pairings were lost, alongside anchovy toast heavy with butter, bland mussels, over-salted chips and a bitter red lettuce salad. Reviewers repeatedly mention widely spaced tables and a rustic, cosy room.

“It's a familiar model at this point: natural wines, wood-fired pizza, quirky reclaimed space. But the thing with familiar models is, they produce competition, and for a place to thrive for years doing the same thing everyone else is doing, they have to do it well. These guys do it really, really well. Everything was delicious in a way that showed real attention to detail. Pizza dough had clearly been long-fermented from a proper sourdough, the starter was twist on the Gilda that was really inspired. Better yet, the servers have opinions and are genuinely happy to share them. Whenever I find some place with a long natural wine list, I always default to "what's the most interesting thing you're pouring?" In this case, our server's face lit up, and she ended up taking us through a tour of some of the most enjoyable glasses I had that year. This is all based on a lunch that I had with a friend of mine, visiting from the US, nearly three years ago. We still talk about it to this day.”

“Everything we ate was really tasty. Nice location and a really chill rustic vibe inside the hotel. …”

“We ordered several dishes. 1. cheese puffs (really good) 2. Anchovies toast (too much butter) 3. Bread (it’s bread(bring back the small wood fired bread)) 4. Red lettuce salad (too bitter on its own, strange combination with the Parmesan) 5. Mussels (average, quite bland) 6. Steak (large portion ordered, was nice) 7. Chips (too salty, tasted like honest burger chips). The orange radler and margarita were both fantastic. What was quite odd was that there was zero structure to the service, all of these items arrived individually at very different times, it was like some strange version of a tasting menu and it did not go well, you need these dishes together to enjoy the flavours of each / pairing flavours, individually it was a bit of a let down and wouldn’t be back for this reason.”

“Despite being located in one of the most touristy parts of London, Elliot’s genuinely delivers. The food is excellent and thoughtfully cooked, and they have an impressive selection of natural wines to match. From the snacks, especially the Isle of Mull cheese puff, to the small plates like the lion’s mane mushroom, everything was spot on. The wood-grilled Yorkshire venison chop was absolutely outstanding. A real standout restaurant that’s well worth visiting.”

“My partner and I agreed this is the best sunday roast we’ve had in London - which is saying something since we have had many! The meat was tender and the sides were a bit different and lovely! The garlic bread foccacia starter was also out of this world, it was so pillowy and soft and oozing with garlic butter! I would come back just to eat that. The vibe of the restaurant was so cosy and the tables were spaced out nicely so the meal felt pretty private! Please keep doing the roasts (and the garlic bread!!)”
