Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the outdoor area at Boro Bistro, described as a sunny spot to relax with plenty of shade, and the drinks served there, including sensational cocktails, a spicy margarita and a perfectly made flat white. Close behind is the food, with the seafood cassoulet called divine, along with crab croquettes, lamb meatballs, spinach pancakes, truffle fries, snails and a charcuterie board with prawns. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and welcoming. The complaints are specific. One diner left hungry after tiny portions and mains arriving staggered, with one dish a single chunk of beef. Another found the beef bavette chewy despite a tasty pepper sauce. A reviewer who had booked was seated indoors on a hot day with loud music and no air conditioning, and describes a waiter unable to advise on the wine list and abrupt door staff who offered no apology. Several visitors arrived by chance after Borough Market, and one couple without a booking were seated outside and given blankets by the waitress.

“Lovely, quirky little place just outside of Borough Market. Found ourselves needing a break from walking around the market and very much enjoyed our time there. The staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive. The outdoor area is a nice little sun trap to relax in but provides lots of shaded areas too. Although we didn't get the chance to try the food, everything we saw being served looked amazing. After a couple of sensational cocktails in a relaxed atmosphere and lovely staff, we were ready to go back into the market.”

“This is a fantastic place to have drinks with friends on a sunny day. The outdoor seating is a perfect sunny spot to relax, and the excellent service makes the experience even better as the staff are attentive and welcoming. Everything we ordered tasted incredibly fresh, making it a spot I highly recommend.”

“We stumbled upon this cute bistro while walking along the Thames and what a great find! It was very busy but we managed to secure a seat in the corner in a nice private section. The staff were very friendly and lovely even despite having to work in the extreme heat! We had the beef burger, spinach pancakes, crab croquettes & lamb meatballs and they were all divine. It turned out an amazing unplanned dinner. Would definitely go again”

“A thoroughly average, mildly disappointing experience. I had booked a table expecting some level of consideration, yet we were seated indoors on an exceptionally hot day. One does begin to wonder what the purpose of a reservation is if it does not, in practice, reserve anything in particular. The service followed a similar pattern of inconsistency. The waiter appeared unfamiliar with the wine list and was unable to offer any meaningful guidance, which made decision-making more of a guessing game than a curated experience. To complete the picture, the door staff (the security guy) seemed to be operating under the impression that firmness is a substitute for professionalism (you are not a National hero). A more composed and courteous approach would have gone a long way, especially when dealing with guests who were simply waiting to be seated. The absence of even a basic apology did not go unnoticed. I will not dwell on the lack of air conditioning or the rather enthusiastic volume of the music indoors—these feel almost secondary at this point. Overall, a very “touristic” standard experience: present, functional, and promptly forgettable”

“Food was great! We got the charcuterie board, prawns and Paredon peppers which was yum! Chris was the best and brought us lots of extra pickles and bread when we asked for which was v much appreciated! Chris you Rock!”
