About Boisdale of Canary Wharf

Boisdale of Canary Wharf is a Scottish restaurant at Unit 14 Cabot Sq in London, with the UK's largest whisky bar, a cigar room with a humidor and live music every night. Diners can have a three-course dinner before the music starts, so the meal and the show share one evening. The programme includes tribute acts such as Steely Dan and Billy Joel, and Sunday lunch comes with a Sinatra tribute. The menu lists a classic burger and jerk chicken. The bar pours whisky and a range of Hine cognacs, and wine comes by the glass, the bottle or a 500ml carafe. An upper-floor room has windows overlooking Cabot Square. Music nights require a table. The restaurant is open Tuesday to Sunday and closed Mondays.

Customer Review Summary

Live music is what reviewers return for, with tribute acts such as Simply Dan drawing repeat bookings and a Caribbean party night getting the room dancing. Diners describe a lively atmosphere that builds through the evening, with an upper floor setting overlooking the square. Food draws praise too, including the classic burger, veal gnocchi starter, lemon chicken salad and pizza, alongside excellent cocktails and a house red described as very drinkable. Service splits. Several call the staff friendly and professional on busy nights, while another found it very slow and unfriendly at a Sunday lunch. One reviewer describes a rude waiter who frowned at rare steaks and scoffed at skipping a starter, and another objects to a heavy handed security guard. Cost is the sharpest complaint. One diner cites a small portion of creamed spinach and a basket of chips priced high on top of a steak, plus a separate charge for a table at the music. Others note a starter so salty it burnt the mouth, and jerk chicken that could be hotter, with the complimentary patties a nice touch.

“We attended the Sunday lunch with Sinatra (Stephen Triffitt). Having seen Stephen at both Canary Wharf & Belgravia. I much prefer Belgravia which is more of a jazz club. Canary Wharf is a very different atmosphere, better for larger groups and families I would say. The service left much to be desired however when you compare the two places, it was like dining at two different establishments. Very slow, staff not friendly and everything felt too much to ask for. Food was fantastic ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️”

“We went because we got a free table from a stand to try the live music, but we paid for the food. We made use of the summer sale to have 50% off on steak and were overall quite shocked at the prices. See the attached pictures, we had a small handful of creamed spinach for 12£, 8 baby potatoes for 7£ and a small basket of chips for 10£. The steak was good (and the other food was also good, not bas tasting) but the 50% price was 26£, with no sides. So regular price one would pay 52£ for a steak with no sides. The music was great and the band was super fun, but thinking that you pay this much and then also have to pay for a table for the music, probably the worst value for money. Also we had a waiter that was incredibly rude, judging our choices at every step. When we asked for rare steaks he frowned, when we didn’t want a starter he scoffed and he looked disappointed when we didn’t order alcoholic beverages.”

“Horace Andy amazing. All the waiting staff amazing especially Marshall, the very knowledgeable lady who knew her wines and the calm and respectful duty manager she was excellent at handling a very difficult situation. The fly on the ointment for me was the heavy handed security guy. He really needs to be taken in hand and shown how to behave. The lady on the table near me was particularly treated with disrespect. I appreciate that it is a manly a seated venue, what would be nice going forward would be to perhaps have a small area where people can have a little dance. Dub for me is about dancing. Having worked in wines and spirits for over 20 years it was particularly lovely for me to see an amazing array of Hine cognacs especially.”

“The atmosphere and music are spot on as usual. Great crowds. The main meal was nicely presented and full of flavour but the starters was so salty it burnt the roof of my mouth. Either a chef with no taste buds or a chef who doesn't try their own food.”

“One of my favourite spots in London. The cocktails are excellent, and the venue has a wonderfully cosy atmosphere. The staff are polite and respectful, and the views are fantastic. The overall ambience almost feels like being on holiday. If you’re looking to relax and unwind, I’d highly recommend giving this place a try—it’s well worth it.”
