Chez Maiss
Quick info
About Chez Maiss
Chez Maiss is a Mediterranean restaurant, bar and grill in London, on Broadway Shopping Centre West. Dishes arrive in sets of three, so a table can order several plates and split them among the group. The truffled arancini come as a set of three, and the Volcano Shrimps with Korean sauce add a different flavour to the Mediterranean menu. The flat iron steak is served with peppercorn sauce for those who want a grill dish. Cocktails are made at the bar alongside the food. The restaurant is open Monday to Saturday and closed on Sundays.

Customer Review Summary
Truffled arancini is the dish reviewers name most, called excellent and really good, though one notes only three small pieces arrived. Close behind are the risotto, the Volcano Shrimps with Korean sauce, and the keftas and Syrian dips, with a lovely atmosphere also mentioned. Service and value draw the recurring complaints. Diners report long waits for a waiter on quiet evenings, a cheque requested repeatedly until one paid at the bar, and three staff needed to get two drinks. Dishes arriving in sets of three felt awkward for a couple, and the flat iron steak was called bland or well done when medium-rare was asked for. Others praise friendly staff and thoroughness with dietary restrictions, and one group whose lunch plans collapsed during a rail strike describes the manager phoning back to fit their tight schedule.

“This was oddly disappointing, both in service and food. The best example was when my friend asked what a flat iron steak is: the waitress un-ironically said "I don't know" and walked away. The food itself was also very disappointing. I went ahead and ordered the flat iron steak and asked for it to be medium-rare. What I received was a well done piece of meat that could've been pork, served with a peppercorn sauce that probably came from the supermarket. The broccoli was great, but did not compensate for the miserable steak. The best part was the knife that came with the steak. They bought this knife from the "Flat Iron" restaurant chain and use it for their own dishes. It looks very out of place in a competing restaurant. It wasn't sharp either, as it was ripping through the steak instead of slicing it.”

“As Canadians visiting London, we discovered this lovely and delicious restaurant. If not for the distance, I would become a loyal regular. The service was great and the prices reasonable. I recommend the keftas, arancini, and Syrian dips, but seriously everything was delicious on our table!”

“Went there twice this week:) had a great experience at this restaurant. The food was fresh, flavorful, and served quickly. The atmosphere was clean and welcoming, making it a nice place to relax and enjoy a meal. The staff were especially friendly, attentive, and professional throughout the visit. They made sure everything was perfect and provided excellent customer service. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good food and a pleasant dining experience :)”

“The truffle arancini balls were really good however all the other dishes were a bit disappointing. Everything came in sets of three which isn’t really convenient for a couple especially as the waiter said they were dishes designed to share. The staff were nice but not very attentive especially as there was only us and 2 other tables. We asked multiple times for the cheque and didn’t get it, in the end went up to the bar to pay”
