Quick info
About Jin Kichi
Jin Kichi is a Japanese restaurant in London, at 73 Heath St, built around charcoal-grilled yakitori cooked to order, with the chefs working at the bar in view of diners. The izakaya-style menu pairs the skewers, including Yakitori Set A, with sushi, sashimi and tempura, and Maguro Natto is also listed. Sake and shochu cocktails make up the drinks. The restaurant runs over two floors, with a downstairs seating area and a bar counter, and a private dining room gives groups a space of their own. It opens Tuesday to Sunday and closes on Mondays. Reservations are required.

Customer Review Summary
Charcoal grilled yakitori draws the most attention, with reviewers enjoying the chicken wings and the Set A skewers at the bar while watching the chef grill over charcoal. One says it comes closest to a yakitori place they loved in Osaka. Sashimi comes close behind, including a lunch set of tuna, salmon, yellowtail and sea bass, and reviewers also name the chirashi, Maguro Natto and shrimp tempura. Several say the room feels like Japan, with a traditional izakaya vibe, though one finds the decor a bit dated. Prices are described as mid range to expensive but mostly fair for the quality, and the green tea drew a complaint for being pricey and not refillable. The space is small, and one reviewer found the tables crammed. Several suggest booking, though a couple got in as walk-ins. One reviewer says a server rushed them and brought the bill before they had finished eating. Another found the charcoal grilled chicken skin already sold out at lunchtime.

“My favourite meal when I went to Japan on holiday was a Yakitori place in Osaka. This is the closest that any place has come to replicating that taste experience. I recommend Set A Yakitori skewers. A bit pricey but worth it. It is a shame I'm not local as I'd definitely would have become a regular.”

“Excellent Japanese restaurant, extremely popular. Not a surprise as food and service was top class. Prices are fair for what was offered. I would recommend booking, although we were lucky to get a place as a walk-in.”

“Good spot for Japanese fare - we liked the chirashi, the tuna and the salmon rolls, and the shrimp tempura. Only flag is that restaurant is quite small, so the tables are quite crammed.”
