About The Cheese Wheel

The Cheese Wheel is an Italian restaurant in London, run as stall 29 in the outdoor food market at Camden Lock Market. Cooks make the fettuccine in an open kitchen in front of customers, then toss the cooked pasta in a giant cheese wheel at the stall. The menu lists 15 dishes, with fettuccine as the main pasta. Options include the Fettuccine Ragu with Slow Cooked Beef and the Fettuccine Tartufata, and mushroom can be added on top. Parmesan, chilli oil and crushed garlic are offered as add-ons, and truffle mozzarella sticks sit alongside the pasta. Staff give a free taste to anyone who is unsure what to order. No seating sits right next to the stall, but nearby dome structures have shared tables where you take any free space.

Customer Review Summary

Fresh fettuccine made in an open kitchen and tossed in a big cheese wheel is the draw, with the original Alfredo praised by a self-described Alfredo snob and the pancetta version called the best pasta one diner has had. Close behind are the rich, creamy truffle pasta and a pesto with dried tomato and extra mushroom, plus truffle mozzarella sticks. Staff are called friendly, and one reviewer suggests loading the pasta with parmesan, chilli oil and crushed garlic. Others call the wheel a gimmick, saying the pasta is dipped for a second, the cheesiness comes from the cream sauce, and the portion is small. One found a ragu not cheesy, and another found too much lemon. One reviewer reports being racially profiled, and another says a server touched the pasta by hand. Several mention a free sample offered to the undecided.

“Purely for Instagram, not real cheese wheel pasta Total gimmick. The cheese wheel is just a prop where they dip your pasta for one second before serving it to you. It’s absolutely not what you expect when you order this kind of dish. It looks cool for a video, but the actual taste and process are super disappointing. Save your money.”

“Pasta was well cooked and provided a good portion size. A little bit too much lemon juice for me. The service was quick but racially profiling me was not acceptable. They changed the song to a different language after I had ordered and the guy sang it as he served the pasta to me but it wasn't a language I spoke. The music was also extremely loud making it hard to hear and talk without yelling, surely disturbing other vendors and their customers as well. The pasta was not flavoured that well, there are definitely better places to go in Camden but maybe not for the same price. Still, I would not recommend this place unless you want to be racially profiled.”

“Best pasta I've ever had. Get pancetta one if you're carnivore. Load it with parmesan, chilli oil and crushed garlic. Make sure you get two portions because it's this good.”

“Great food! Great service. They’ll give you a free taste as well in case you ain’t sure. 👏”

“What a fun place!! I heard of the Cheese Wheel back in 2019 but didn’t get a chance to try them until my most recent trip- and it was everything I hoped and more! They are located on the outdoor food market, stall 29. It was pouring but the staff were friendly, welcoming and energetic. Even allowed me to take pictures of them preparing everything. I ordered the original fettuccine, but they all looked delicious. I’m a self proclaimed Alfredo snob and this place knocked it out of the park! I can’t recommend it more and can’t wait to go back during my next trip!!”
