Customer Review Summary
Diners most often return for the food, describing delicious, generous portions of Italian staples. The Fritelle starter, spaghetti alle vongole and cotoletta alla Milanese draw praise, as do a squid main, a lamb dish and a fillet in lemon and white wine sauce, while garlic bread and lasagne please another table. Desserts get mentions too, including tiramisu, a fudge cake with chocolate ice cream and a budino one reviewer calls a favourite. Staff are described as friendly, welcoming and attentive without being overbearing, and the room as homely, cozy and intimate. The main reservations concern value and the wine list. A few felt the pasta was average and the calves liver basic and unremarkable for the price, and one finds the wine list boring, with nothing aged or interesting. One notes a little wait because dishes are freshly cooked. Another had been turned away from last minute tables before booking ahead, then booked again while paying the bill.

“The food was absolutely delicious, all freshly cooked, so a little wait. Lovely staff, attentive but not over bearing. Would definitely recommend. Booking required 😃”

“Does it live up to the hype? I’m not so sure. Was great to visit a SW London institution - we visited on a Friday night during one of the summer heatwaves and it had a lovely atmosphere and welcoming staff. Food wise, overall we were a bit disappointed. The lamb was excellent but the pasta dishes were just average and nothing special. For the price it seems a bit mad, have had far far better authentic and high quality Italian menus in London. The budino was delicious though - one of my favourite desserts and can be difficult to find in London!”

“Genuinely, how have I never been here before? I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place… tell the truth and risk it never being able to get a table! There is nothing I could fault. Exceptional food, great wines, lovely ambiance and arguably the most epic service! Well done. Cant wait to come back!”

“The food was good but I wasn't overly impressed considering the price. The calves liver was fine but the dish was basic and unremarkable.”

“Tucked away in the heart of Barnes, Riva offers a dining experience to indulge oneself and guests. The welcoming venue matches the quality of the food. The Fritelle starter is a must-try, satisfyingly filling with an array of flavours. The Spaguetti alle Vongole and Cotoletta alla Milanese are all excellent choices, all at reasonable prices with generous portions.”
