Quick info
About Mughead Coffee
Mughead Coffee is a coffee shop and breakfast restaurant on New Cross Rd in London, serving walk-in customers through the day. The menu runs from flat whites and lattes, with oat milk options, to smoked salmon on toast and warm pistachio cinnamon rolls that appear regularly on the counter. Bagels, pastries, and a brownie round out the breakfast and lunch offerings. Seating is available both indoors and outdoors, with tables often filling up later in the morning, so the outdoor spot suits those wanting extra room or eating with a dog, since dogs are welcome throughout. The entrance is step-free, making it workable for visitors with mobility needs. There is no table service booking, it operates on a walk-in basis daily during daytime hours. The windows are lined with green plants as part of the fit-out.

Customer Review Summary
Cinnamon rolls are what reviewers return to most, described as often warm and the source of a fast-growing reputation for the home made swirls, though one found the pistachio version dry, too sweet, and shedding its top. Coffee comes close behind, with a flat white and a latte both praised, and one reviewer finding the bean blend slightly sharp. The smoked salmon toast earns enthusiasm, one diner ordering a second, while another noted the menu listed scrambled eggs that never arrived and the avocado cost extra. A brownie and a croissant get passing mentions, and one cookie was hard and not freshly baked. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and the space is described as relaxing, chilled, and comfortable, with green plants at the windows. Reviewers also raise hard chairs and benches, a table that can be difficult to find when busy, a wish for longer opening hours, and a flat white considered too expensive. One visit ended with eggs cooking that filled the room with smoke despite open windows and door.

“I really liked the cafe, the windows are really beautiful with the soft beautiful green plants, their coffee is also good, wishing if they can open for longer hours, in particular during summer months. I will visit soon and bring my friends. Beautiful cute cafe.”

“Popped in for a coffee and cinnamon roll. Service fast and friendly but the pistachio cinnamon roll was dry. The entire top fell off as I ate it onto the ground. The pistachio flavour was lost in the cinnamon and it was too sweet for me. Place is lovely and coffee nice but at £4.30 for a flat white too expensive to go again.”

“I had the smoked salmon toast and it was so tasty. Later my friend arrived and I recommended it to him, but he accidentally ordered two - so I ate another one. Two in a row. That's how good it was. Well done!”

“I liked it here. I had a great latte here and an ok croissant. The atmosphere is great. Very relaxing. They had indoor and outdoor seating. The staff were friendly and the service was good. They made Eggs at one point that flooded the place with smoke. Though the windows and the door were open, it still got very smokey. They may need to get more ventilation to prevent that. But overall a nice visit.”

“We ordered a flat white, orange+apple+carrot+ginger fruit juice, an egg + tomato bagel, small cookie and salmon on toast. The food overall was great but the cookie was hard and not freshly baked. This was remedied by dipping it into the flat white. Which was enjoyable but the bean blend was slightly sharp for my taste. The bagel was delightful, no adverse comments there. The salmon on toast was very fresh and delicious with hints of pickled onion and an extra side of smashed avocado complimented it well. This dish did have some draw backs though, the item was described as coming with scrabbled eggs which it did not, and we had to order the avocado at an extra cost. Double check before you order for the latest menu as I’m sure this item was out of date. My girlfriend was really impressed with the presentation and speed of service. Overall a great experience and I would recommend it as the best brunch spot in a 15 minute walk.”
