Customer Review Summary

Cakes draw the most attention, with reviewers singling out the red velvet, the lemon cake and the pistachio cake. One finds the rose pistachio cake quite sweet with a faint pistachio flavour, and another calls the cakes lame. Fish and chips with mashed peas, described as freshly made, and a salmon bagel come close behind, and several praise the terrace view. Complaints recur. Two reviewers describe a long wait for hot drinks, one calling it interminable and suggesting a second or larger coffee machine, while another says there is no barista and the coffee is not great. Staff draw mixed reactions. One reviewer finds them friendly, while others report rude young staff and a rude manager. A longtime regular says the toasties and whole domed cakes were replaced by smaller slices, and that the salt and vinegar vanished from the pickup area. Another reviewer says the kitchen closed an hour before the venue, leaving no hot food on the terrace.

“We have been coming here for a few years now but it appears that they changed it all around 3 weeks ago, so the manager was keen to point out. Not impressed. Simple toasties gone. Delicious full round cakes that you would help yourself to a segment and all protected under a dome for freshness - gone. Now smaller slices from a long cake. When you order a meal and go to pickup the condiments, there are none. I had fish and chips which was very nice but where is the salt and vinegar. Staff told me to go back to the counter to ask which is now full of people. Trying to cut costs but regulars will notice. Also found the manager behind the serving counter to be rude and arrogant. Had an issue with him a few weeks ago. He forgets where he is and the way customers expect to be treated especially in JL. Power gone to his head.”

“Came here specifically to sit on the terrace and enjoy some hot food, but unfortunately there was no warning that the kitchen closes an hour before the venue itself. I understand that staff need time to clean and prepare for closing, but this should ideally be done after operating hours, not while the place is still open to guests. Very disappointing experience.”
  • Jonathan Walter
“The staff are friendly and it’s a pleasant place to come to, but the wait for hot drinks is interminable. A second, or just a larger coffee machine would make a world of difference, especially at these prices.”
  • H dyman
“The fish and chips with mashed peas were freshly made and seem to be one of the café’s most popular dishes. The rose pistachio cake was quite sweet, although the pistachio flavour was not very strong.”
  • Andrew
“Staff were extremely rude, have a bunch of young kids working there who have horrible attitudes. Management also appears not to care that they present themselves in such a hostile manner. The food was pretty subpar definitely would not recommend coming here.”
