About Grind

Grind is a coffee shop in Soho, London, at 19 Beak St, by Carnaby and next to the entrance to Kingly Court. It is one of a few branches around London. Seating is limited upstairs, and a downstairs speakeasy-style lounge gives guests a second room to settle into. Orders go in at the counter and are brought over to the table. Coffee comes from a house blend, with a flat white on the menu alongside a Spanish latte and a turmeric latte. Breakfast and lunch are made mostly with organic produce. The shop is open daily. Boxes of its own coffee beans are sold to take home, along with merchandise.

“Went in and got an espresso. When I was about to pay the payment machine asked me to tip. The espresso was ordered and delivered at counter (take away). Why do you suggest to tip so strongly? There was no smiles, no small talk from barman nothing. Basic customer service. Tipping should be VOLUNTARY not suggested. Will never go back. I’m disgusted”

“Such a cool place in Carnaby! They have a few beaches but it doesn’t feel like a chain. Super cute place to sit with a variety of coffee options and other drinks. They even sell their own mercy which looks great. The service was amazing, our phone battery almost died and the guy at the counter (tall, mustache, super sorry I didn’t ask for his name) gave us one.”

“My husband’s workplace is on this street, and based on his recommendation, we decided to stop by here for a coffee break after shopping ☕️🛍️ We even bought two boxes of coffee before tasting it, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a complete disappointment 😞 None of us liked the coffee beans or the coffee itself. After drinking the matcha, my stomach felt upset 🤢. The staff were friendly, smiling, and genuinely helpful 😊👍 However, as someone who lives here, I feel the flavor is just an inflated balloon 🎈overhyped and underwhelming. I don’t think I’ll be coming back again. The coffee was bad 🚫☕️”

“Just got back from a month long trip to London and this was the best coffee my group and I had the whole trip. The spanish latte was especially good. The employees were very friendly and gave great service. They have limiseating upstairs but there is a lounge downstairs that is super cozy. Highly recommend this place.”

Customer Review Summary

Coffee is the draw at this Soho shop, though reviewers split on it. Several praise the flat white and oat flat white as free of bitterness, and others single out the Spanish latte, a vanilla oat milk cappuccino and a turmeric latte, with one visitor calling it the best coffee of a month in London. Two reviewers disagree sharply, describing coffee that was burnt and really bitter, or beans and drinks they disliked, and one says the matcha left their stomach upset. Staff are described as kind, friendly and fast. The downstairs lounge is called cozy and compared to a speakeasy, while one reviewer found the seating uncomfortable. Pastries draw a complaint too, with croissants described as tired, hard and stale. One reviewer objected to a tip prompt on a takeaway espresso. Another reports that the barista remembered their cappuccino order for a second takeaway drink despite many customers in between.
