About The Round - Peckham Rye

The Round is an architect-designed pavilion cafe on Straker's Rd in London, set in the middle of Peckham Rye Park with a view over the park and a playground next door. The kitchen sources organic, fair-trade, free-range and local ingredients. The halloumi bowl comes with tahini, bulgar wheat, shredded cabbage and pickled red onion, served with flatbread, and burgers are on the menu too, along with vegan options. A display of pastries, cakes and pies sits alongside the coffee, with carrot cake among the choices. Hackney Gelato runs a side hatch next to the cafe, so ice cream is a separate stop from the main counter. Orders are placed at the counter. The Round is open daily, daytime only.

Customer Review Summary

Coffee is the most frequent draw, called delicious and consistently lovely, with a gingerbread latte singled out by one first-time visitor. Close behind are the food items reviewers name: halloumi bowls with tahini, bulgar wheat and pickled red onion, a ham and cheese croissant, juicy burgers, carrot cake and truffle fries. Sweet potato fries with a lime and coriander dip also earn praise, though one reviewer wanted them crunchier, and the gelato served beside the cafe is called fairly priced. Several mention the view over Peckham Rye Park and the friendly staff. Criticism centres on upkeep and value. Some call it pricey, one reviewer found no clean tables and crumbs on the chairs and floor, and the toilets are described as having seen better days, with only three unisex cubicles. A Monday display of pastries, cakes and pies left one visitor underwhelmed, and a bacon bap with just a couple of rashers and no butter felt poor value to another. That same reviewer's coffee never reached the table, though staff made it again.

“Come on sunny day to try Hackney Gelato that served on the side just the café, rye the person who worked that day was very helpful and served us with big smile although the place was super busy! Gelato was delicious and fairly priced 🙌”

“Place was quarter full at like 11am on Easter Friday and there wasn't a single clean table in the place and there were crumbs all over the chairs and floor. Ordered a coffee and a bacon bap. Bap arrived quickly but it was literally just a couple of rashers of bacon in a bap, not even butter on the bap which for £7.30 (!). Coffee didn't arrive after 30 mins, when I asked about it they said they'd called it out but I was 2 metres from the counter, admittedly I was feeding two small toddlers so maybe I missed it and to be fair they did still make it again for me. It's such a nice spot and space and it could be alot better.”
