About Green Garden Cafe

A Greek owned and run worker's café on High Street in London, Green Garden Cafe builds its breakfast around a make your own option that can be assembled as a vegan plate, so guests set the terms of their own meal. Brunch is a recurring occasion, with Eggs Benedict and its Florentine version among the dishes, and a chef's breakfast arrives with toast. The kitchen works through around a dozen dishes covering both hot and cold food, and salads appear on the menu, including a side salad with vinaigrette served alongside mains. Cappuccino and other hot drinks come from a proper coffee machine at the counter. The room is café style with simple decor, and the family-style operation runs on table service. Green Garden Cafe takes walk-ins rather than bookings, and it opens daily during the daytime.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often come for brunch and breakfast, with the eggs Benedict (Florentine) singled out for perfectly poached eggs, a creamy hollandaise, a side salad and a finishing sprinkle of paprika. Close behind is the coffee, where one reviewer calls the cappuccino the best they have had in London and another praises it alongside the chef's breakfast with toast. Fresh salads, homemade cakes and a make-your-own breakfast that can be made vegan also earn mentions. Several describe fast, efficient service with a smile, large portions, a clean room and low prices, though one cautions not to expect high quality food for the price. The garden seating is described as cosy, and the cafe is called family style and Greek owned and run. The one recurring complaint comes from a long-time regular, who says staff start cleaning up 20 to 30 minutes before closing and then refuse to serve customers, or at best offer a sandwich, which the reviewer finds frustrating and inconvenient.

“The food is great and I’ve been eating here for many years. My only fault is that they close before their closing time. It is really frustrating that they do this and can really inconvenience people. What they do is they start cleaning up 20-30 minutes before their closing time and won’t serve you or if you’re lucky you might get a sandwich. I would prefer it if they would make the time earlier or start cleaning up at the time that they’re supposed to close. Apart from this the food is lovely”

“We enjoyed brunch of eggs Benedict (Florentine) with a hot beverages. The service was fast, and very attentive. The eggs were perfectly poached, and the hollandaise was lovely and creamy. It came with a nice side salad with vinaigrette dressing. The sprinkling of paprika across the dish to finish was an excellent touch that worked extremely well. £20 well spent!”
