About Pear Tree Cafe

Pear Tree Cafe sits by the lake in Battersea Park, a cafe and restaurant serving all-day brunch and drinks. Ordering happens at a counter, and there is no table service in the outdoor sections, where picnic-style tables and benches, some seating up to eight, look out over the water. The menu runs across 20 dishes, with buttermilk pancakes and smashed avocado among the regulars. A step-free entrance suits visitors with mobility needs, and high chairs are available for families with young children. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables, and free Wi-Fi is on offer for those settling in. Takeaway is available for anyone eating off site. Reservations are recommended, and the cafe opens daily. Beyond the food, an outdoor bar and BBQ station run in the evenings, sometimes alongside a live saxophone player.

Customer Review Summary

Scrambled eggs with smoked salmon draw the most consistent praise, described as filling and nicely done, with the buttermilk pancakes and sweet potato fries close behind as repeat favorites. The lakeside, park-side setting and live music, including a saxophone player and singalong sets, come up often as part of the appeal, alongside the smashed avocado toast and courgette, bean and chickpea salad for those seeking vegetarian options. Coffee draws a real split: several enjoy it with a meal, but multiple reviewers describe poor cups, one calling a pair of cappuccinos mostly milk froth for £8.40, and another waiting fifteen minutes while a barista served a large group out of turn. Beer service also disappoints one reviewer, who got an Asahi pint too warm and overly foamy. Crowding and noise recur too, with one visitor unable to hear across the table amid what they called an obnoxious, loudly-themed lunch crowd, and another leaving without ordering after seeing a dog seated at a table over hygiene concerns. Staff are repeatedly called pleasant and helpful, including one occasion where a server promptly remade a dish after a vegetarian allergy mix-up was flagged.

“Please can you bring back your old pizzas! The margerita pizza was so delicious and covered in basil leaves - it was out favourite pizzza in the area. It seems like your supplier has changed as we got one last week and it just tasted like oil, no taste of cheese / tomato / basil. Bring back the old pizzas please!!”

“Been enjoying this place for years for a nice brunch with friends. Staff are always pleasant food is delicious although slightly overpriced. Went today for lunch, so obnoxious I didn’t realise it was now modelling itself on an 18-30’s Ibiza all inclusive. Couldn’t hear my husband from across the table, it was so loud and completely unnecessary at 1pm, poor dogs and children. Security was a sham, absolute jobsworth and pointless, who has security at a cafe anyway!!??”

“Really nice coffee with beautiful views of the lake, the staff were super friendly and helpful but the café is always very busy.”

“Peach Iced tea was made from a hot green tea bag to which they then added lukewarm water and some ice. It wasn’t great. It also explains why it took an hour to get it. They did say they add peach tea syrup to it but I could barely barely taste it.”
