About Blue River Cafe
On Northdown St in London, Blue River Cafe is a small, family-owned cafe with an old-school menu built around the full English breakfast. The black pudding special breakfast sits at the centre of that menu, and liver is served either with the black pudding breakfast or as liver and bacon. A veggie breakfast is also available, with hash browns as an add-on. For lighter orders, the kitchen makes a wide range of sandwiches, rolls and ciabattas, with fillings such as sausage, egg and bacon, and it also cooks pasta and grills. Tea and coffee are served alongside.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often come for the full English breakfast, with one singling out a black pudding breakfast whose liver was soft and moist, and another praising savoury beans and a table of sandwich fillings for bacon sandwiches. Close behind are generous portions and good value, which come up repeatedly, along with friendly staff, including with children. Several mention the coffee and the tea, one calling it the best coffee in a while and another enjoying a hot cup on a rainy day. Some describe a family owned, old school cafe that feels warm and cosy, and a longtime regular calls it a neighborhood favorite. The main caveat is cost: one reviewer found a veggie breakfast with a coffee very expensive, and paid extra for hash browns, though the food was well cooked and arrived within minutes of ordering. Another notes the toilet is downstairs up a steep, narrow staircase. French tourists closed their review thanking the cafe for a generous meal and the tea.

“What an absolute gem! We found this small cafe whilst walking down the street looking for breakfast but it was full however we doubled back and got in a little later. We soon found out why it was full! It's a vibrant cafe hosted by a small team who are friendly very slick in operation delivering a wide choice of freshly prepared no-nonsense food from fresh ingredients. You can sit in or take away and its very busy but at no time are you rushed. The portions are generous and the value for money is great. Would go back without hesitation!”

“Traveling through for the day and found this place tucked away. It's got lovely atmosphere, the staff are friendly even with children and it's great value for money aswell! Will definitely be coming again if I do pass through!”

“A simple but effective veggie breakfast here. It cost £18 for this and a coffee, which is very expensive, even for central London! I added hash browns to the breakfast which cost £2 extra, but even without this the price is very steep. That said the food was well cooked, filling, and came just a few minutes after ordering, so I'm happy.”
