Customer Review Summary
Burgers from the in-house kitchen residency are what reviewers return to most. The lamb burger is described as tender and flavourful, "an elevated kebab in a bun", and the fish burger as melty inside a crunchy batter with a great tartar sauce. Others praise a juicy, well-seasoned burger with a perfectly toasted bun, a spectacular chicken burger, and a celeriac burger one reviewer would travel a long way for. Skin-on fries and crispy potatoes get close mentions. Several describe friendly bar staff, outdoor seating, a buzzing quiz night, and an electric atmosphere for rugby and football on the screens, with one fan pleased a second projector showed their team's game. The complaints are serious. One reviewer reports the person claiming to be the owner shouted at customers all night, argued over an order of water, and had to be restrained by other workers after trying to start a fight. Another says a booking for the Champions League final was moved three hours earlier a day beforehand. One notes a pint costing more than is typical for the area. A reviewer who praised the rotating menu still wished the day's options were posted ahead.

“I had a booking here for the champions league final around a month in advance. The day before the final, they changed the required arrival time to 3 hours earlier than originally agreed, with the excuse being that they'd simply "received a lot of enquiries". Really poor management.”

“Brilliant venue for hosting a pub quiz! The staff were friendly and incredibly helpful, the atmosphere was fantastic, and everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Great drinks, great vibe, and I’d happily host another event here again.”

“Went there at a quiet time so can only judge on the time I was there, nice bar staff, nice outdoors seating, a pint of Jubel £7.20 so not the cheapest for the area, but a cool place nevertheless”

“Food was great, friendly service and atmosphere...and they put the saints game on a second projector for me even though I was the only saints fan in a sea of Arsenal fans, so has to be 5 stars.”

“The food here is excellent and the pub itself is a decent space, albeit a bit loud. Most customers seemed to be having a good time there and a number of us were enjoying my friend’s birthday. Most of the staff were nice enough. Unfortunately, that was overshadowed by the unacceptable behaviour of the bloke who claimed to be the owner. He was angry all night, kicking off at people for the most marginal of slights. At one point he was angry at someone asking politely to turn the football up. I was completely sober, yet he managed to throw a tantrum about my order of water and a lucky saint. Then he told one of my friends her voice was too “screechy” (how else can you order while the football’s on?) Finally, he tried to start an actual, physical fight with another of my (admittedly drunk) friends. Despite numerous attempts at deescalation, he wouldn’t let it go and shouted and shouted at everyone, eventually having to be restrained by the other workers. The embarrassing debacle lasted for about five minutes, although it felt like longer. I’ve never seen this kind of behaviour from any bar staff before. Even other observers noticed the shoddy behaviour. Won’t be going here again, which is a shame because I would drag myself through a thousand miles of broken glass for that celeriac burger. But if it meant encountering that prat at the thousandth mile, it wouldn’t be worth it.”

“**Current Kitchen Residency: Lagom by chef Elliot Cunningham** This Hackney pub is hundreds of years old, and we’ve strived to stick to it’s roots as a proper East End boozer. No pretension, just amazing local craft beers, the best pub food & burger pop-ups, lovely beer garden, friendly staff, major sports fixtures on projectors, awesome music with live party DJs at the weekend, Drag Bingo, Open Mic, Life Drawing and the best pub quiz in Dalston. We're a home from home local pub and won the Time Out award for Best Pub in Hackney E8. Now offering a cracking happy hour twice a day: 6-7pm and 10-11pm every day!”
