About The Sun Tavern
The Sun Tavern is a family-owned pub at 66 Long Acre in Covent Garden, London, close to the Royal Opera House and Drury Lane. The ground floor is small and centres on the main bar. Upstairs, a second bar sits beside a dining area that serves food, with an open fire in the bar and a slight Art-Deco feel to the pub. That upstairs floor is available for private hire, which suits functions and events. The kitchen serves home-cooked meals, with loaded fries on the menu and vegan options alongside. The pub opens daily, and the nearest tube station is a two-minute walk away.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the friendly, helpful staff, and the upstairs bar and dining area with its open fire comes up repeatedly as a draw. Food earns steady praise, with one diner recommending the loaded fries for generous toppings, and another noting the menu catered for vegans in a party of five. A half pint of Neck Oil is a regular order for one reviewer, and others mention a good selection of beers and wines. Several call it a relaxed, non touristy pub, with a lunch group and a family finding it less crowded than Covent Garden itself. One parent says the child received a kids menu with crayons while the place still felt like a pub. The upstairs space also hosts events, and two groups describe a hired room and a charity quiz where management and staff went out of their way to help with planning and technical problems. Drink prices are described as usual for London. Reviews raise no real complaints, though one notes the ground floor is a bit small. One reviewer closes on a covered alley outside for smokers, which keeps people off the narrow pavement in the rain.

“We popped in on a visit to London looking for somewhere to eat as a group of girls, with a child. The food was phenomenal, the menu had a good choice and was cooked fresh. The staff were very attentive, gave our child guest a kids menu with some crayons and activities (just want to highlight the pub was still a “pub” vibe, good atmosphere, not too “kiddy”). Good drinks, vibes, would definitely recommend! Thanks guys”

“I hosted a charity quiz at The Sun Tavern on 5th May. We had the upstairs to ourselves, the space was perfect. It’s such a nice pub, the food was great and the staff were lovely. Nick and Liz were really friendly and went out of their way helping us with all the technical issues we had with the quiz. I’d definitely recommend hosting any events here!”

“We had a hired space in The Sun Tavern. From the very beginning when planning this reservation, we were looked after; the management really went above and beyond to accommodate our expectations. Great food, good selection of drinks. Their staff is super friendly and very professional. If you are looking for a casual drink or something special to celebrate, look no further and book this place! Thank you for having us.”

“We popped in here on our way from a restaurant to another bar. A great little find for us. Nice old London pub, with a good selection of beers and wines. Staff were helpful and friendly. We didn't eat but they had a good menu.”

“I’ve been here, if memory serves me right, about three times, and this review is based on those visits combined. I’ve walked past this pub plenty of times, but I only ever pop in when I feel like I need a mental break or when I’m in a good mood. Every single time, I’ve ordered a half pint of Neck Oil and just found a random spot to sit, think, or relax. The service is always calm and polite, and the staff have great manners. I always try to show the same respect back because it’s genuinely appreciated. I’ve never had a bad experience with the hospitality here. If you're after warm, friendly service, this is a great place to stop by. The ground floor is a bit small, but I’ve never had trouble finding a seat. It’s never been too loud or crowded whenever I’ve visited. That might just be luck, especially since it’s on a busy road in Covent Garden. The interior is lovely too, clean, shiny, and really well-kept. There’s also an upstairs floor that I think is used for functions. But honestly, why trek up two and a half flights of stairs when you can enjoy the cozy atmosphere downstairs? Plus, the toilets are more accessible near the main bar (not even sure if there are any upstairs! 😂). Still, it’s nice to know they have more space for busier days, with extra tables and even another bar up there. Drink prices are pretty standard for Central London, around £6-£7+, which is expected in the area, so no complaints there. I haven't tried to food but what I've seen, it looks delicious and is presented very well. If you want to smoke or vape, there’s a covered outdoor area in a little alley next to the pub. There aren’t any stools outside, but you can stand, sip your drink, and stay dry if it rains. It's actually great they’ve set that up, better than crowding the narrow, busy pavement out front. All in all, it’s a great pub with friendly service, a chill vibe, and a convenient outdoor spot for smokers, even when it’s raining. Prices are fair for the area, and the atmosphere is always nice. I definitely recommend popping in, even just for a half, you probably won’t be disappointed.”

“The Sun Tavern is a beautiful and welcoming family owned pub in the heart of Covent Garden, perfectly located for Covent Garden, just a 2 minute walk from the tube station. With a slight Art-Deco feel The Sun Tavern is a great bar for a social drink, a meet with friends or a home-cooked meal in the upstairs bar next to the roaring fire. The large upstairs bar and dining area is an ideal place to have a breather from the hustle and bustle of London’s West-End, whether having a sit down meal, a pre-theatre drink or just re-charging the batteries. The upstairs bar is also available for private hire, perfect for any event.”
