About The Coach & Horses

On the High Road in Leyton, The Coach & Horses is a pub built around a rotating kitchen residency, pairing dishes like momos with standard pub fare and Sunday roasts of Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes. The menu, twenty dishes in all, also runs to lamb curry alongside beer and cider, with cask and keg taps covering craft beer and real ale. A large dining area opens onto a back room and garden, both used for private parties, weddings, and birthdays, sometimes with a band or DJ, making the space suited to groups marking an occasion. The step-free entrance suits visitors with mobility needs, and dogs are welcome throughout. A quiz night runs periodically, and free Wi-Fi is available. Reservations are recommended, and the pub opens daily. It sits a few minutes' walk from Leyton underground station.

Customer Review Summary

Sunday roast is the clear draw, reviewers repeatedly praising huge Yorkshire puddings, generous meat portions, and standout rosemary and garlic roast potatoes. Close behind is the beer selection, with several counting a wide range of cask and keg options and craft ales on tap. The kitchen residency also earns consistent praise, with diners naming lamb curry, momos, chicken 65, lamb kottu, and chilli paneer as particular favorites, and one reviewer's Sri Lankan wedding catering going down to the last plate. The pub is also a repeated choice for private parties and wedding receptions, with multiple accounts describing staff handling last minute bookings, bands, and large guest lists smoothly. A few reviewers describe a rockier period, including one mentioning past service issues since resolved and another noting a mixed order on a Sunday visit that was corrected on the spot by management. One reviewer summed up a return visit by finally getting to try the roast lamb with a group of friends after service had improved.

“Last weekend we hosted our wedding party at the Coach and Horses and what a great night it was! Jake and the team were absolutely incredible, anything we needed and they were there to get it sorted and make the evening go off without a hitch. The service we received from the team that worked that evening was faultless. The food was amazing, with such a great range of options, all of our guests have raved about how good it was. The momo canapés in particular were delicious!! We had private use of the dining room and garden, which was more than enough space for our 80 guests, especially as you have your own separate bar and outdoor space. It also has the perfect amount of space to host a band and get everyone on the dance floor. Thank you so much to the whole team you made the whole night even more special and I would definitely recommend choosing the Coach and Horses as a party venue!”

“The team at the Coach & Horses were outstanding when I recently held my 40th birthday party there. The planning was impeccable, the team super flexible and easy to work with, the space was perfect and my guests and I all had the most amazing time. On the night the staff all went above and beyond to make sure it went off without a hitch and the food was amazing with everyone going back for seconds!”

“Jake and the team at Coach and Horses were absolutely amazing fitting me and my friend in for a last minute private booking after another venue cancelled. They were so welcoming and got everything sorted at such short notice. Very impressed at their communication and hospitality. All the guests had a great time. Brill food and beers too. Would highly recommend for a birthday/celebration. Thank you!”

“Went for Sunday lunch, service was average, nothing good, nothing awful (except when my 10 month old knocked my drink over, no one came to help me clean it up…I had to get up to get tissues myself. And no offer to replace it). The food was …”

“We had a 20 year anniversary party this year and cannot rate the Coach and Horses highly enough. It was the perfect venue for our party, everything about the experience from start to finish was first rate. Jake and the team were so welcoming from the get go, taking the time to meet with us to help plan out all the details. Everything was stress free and they helped us shape the best party we could have hoped for. The back room is perfect, the sound system (and music thanks to a great DJ) was spot on. We even had the garden which people loved. Special mention though for the food, it was really well done - including the delicious momos - came out right on time and was the perfect amount. I really can’t recommend the Coach highly enough if you are having a party. It’s my local but we wouldn’t have wanted to have it anywhere else.”
