About The Black Heart

The Black Heart is a live music bar in London, decorated with religious icons, fairy lights and posters, with a Metallica pinball machine in the bar. Metal and rock play in the bar downstairs. Upstairs, a small music venue with a stage hosts live bands, with rock, punk and indie on the bill. The taps pour beers and ales, including stouts and a blackcurrant cider. On the food side, the kitchen serves burgers and chips, and the Sunday roast comes with Yorkshire pudding. Its tofu-based glazed pork option sits beside a vegan roast that uses tofu as the protein. The pub is at 3 Greenland Pl, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often come for the draft selection, singling out the London Black stout and a blackcurrant cider, while another describes the black stuff as very dark and moody. Close behind is the upstairs room, an intimate, small, dark space where bands play through the day, with a small bar of its own. Food draws real praise too: a tofu-based glazed pork Sunday roast with Yorkshire pudding and plenty of gravy, and a spicy burger with crispy onions, jalapenos and chunky chips. The Metallica pinball machine also gets a mention. The main complaint is the kitchen. One diner reports a long wait for a vegan roast, and another found some menu items unavailable with staff who seemed overwhelmed. One reviewer says the upstairs gets very hot when crowded, with no tap water served there. Another notes the music makes conversation hard, and one found the rock festival themed toilets off-putting. Bar staff are repeatedly called friendly, and metal plays constantly in the background, with Carcass, Morbid Angel, Metallica and Obituary named by one reviewer.

“Seems to me that this is primarily a music venue😀 Yes it’s a pub downstairs and you can eat but it’s all about the music😀🎹🎸🎤🎶 Upstairs to a small dark area with a stage. Great band last night. “Code Name Colin”😀🥁 Great noisy atmosphere but a great vibe too😀 Watching family playing in a band and having a whale of a time 😀😂🎹🎤 Highly recommended 😀🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿”

“Burger was OK, chips were amazing, beer was cold, staff was friendly and metal all the time in the background... Carcass, Morbid Angel, Metallica, Obituary, yeah.”

“Recently had a blast here at desertfest. Beers and ales aplenty on tap, great music and atmosphere. Friendly bar staff who worked their butts off. The upstairs venue holds a wealth of bands throughout the day of which I saw several. Small bar is open up there too. Could do with the ability to serve tap water up there as it gets crazy hot when it's crowded. Some bands were one in one out. The five stars is for the new menu though. I tried a desertfest special spicy burger and chips. Wasn't expecting much but turned out to be the best meal of the weekend. Burger was good quality and actually spicy which I love. Crispy onions, jalapenos and sauces with salad. Chips were chunky and cooked to perfection. Could do with some side sauces maybe. But went down well with a festival stout 👌. Chef really knew what they were doing. About £15 all in.”

“Interesting rock bar, dropped in for a beer with my wife who insists on rock/goth bars. Nice beer, especially the black stuff.. very dark and moody. The toilets were definitely rock festival themed 🤢, but otherwise great place.”

“Really awesome place in Camden if you're looking for something alternative. A lot of heavy metal synthesized with punk elements, and some heavier stuff too. Very good staff, came Saturday evening and it wasn't super busy, we're very helpful to both me and my dad (diabetes and celiac) and accommodated us well.”
