About Old Coffee House

Old Coffee House is a pub and gastropub on Beak Street in Soho, a five minute walk from Piccadilly Circus Tube. Its walls are covered with music, film, and other memorabilia and paraphernalia, filling the traditional layout of banquettes and nooks around a single bar. A separate dining area sits upstairs. Cask ales are served alongside mainstream keg beers, and the menu runs to sandwiches, jacket potatoes, Scampi fries, and a Sunday Roast. There is no booking, and the pub takes walk-ins only, so arriving before 18:00 helps avoid the busier evening crowd. It opens daily.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the walls of music, stage and screen memorabilia, which they say give the Soho pub its charm and a layout unlike a typical boozer. Close behind is the drink range, with mentions of cold Heineken, Guinness, cask ales, wine and around twenty whiskies. Food earns praise for being on offer at all in a pub, including a cheese and onion sandwich, a jacket potato, Sunday roast and scampi fries. Many describe friendly, quick service. The recurring complaint is smell. Two reviewers say the bar smelled of urine, and one adds flies around the bar. One reviewer reports staff looking at phones or sleeping behind the bar while customers waited, even though the pub was not busy. Another found only two of six cask pumps running and three keg pumps empty. One visitor found the coffee machine broken, so no hot drinks were possible.

“A lovely pub with lots of interesting memorabilia adorning the walls. As a result of this and the layout, the Old Coffee House feels different to a typical pub. Staff are friendly and there's a good vibe. Well worth a visit - and not for the coffee! 😄”

“Fabulous pub in the heart of SoHo. Bet busy because a) it's a great pub and b) the works cup was on at the time! Ps Good beer, not expensive (relatively speaking).”

“The pub looks really cool inside and has a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, the service was very disappointing. The staff seemed more interested in looking at their phones or even sleeping behind the bar than serving customers. We had to wait far too long despite the pub not being particularly busy. It's a shame, because the place itself has a lot of potential, but the poor service really spoiled the experience.”
  • Tony Oates
“A pub with a peaceful, traditional ambience in the middle of the city just off Carnaby street. Lots of interesting memorabilia on the walls. Comfy, cozy layout. We had lunch of a cheese and onion sandwich and jacket potato. Both were very tasty and priced just right. Service is quick and cheerful. Nice selection of local beer 🍺 😁. I would highly recommend a visit if you’re in the Regent/Oxford street area.”

“Popped into this lovely pub while bimbling around Soho. Great charm and character inside. Full of great bits of memorabilia from stars of stage, screen, rock and pop and other great bits. Good beer and wine and friendly service. I’ll be going back the next time I’m here.”
