About Village Soho
Village Soho is a gay bar in Soho, London, at 81 Wardour St, spread over three floors themed as a boudoir, a cafe-bar and a disco, with chandeliers lighting the rooms. A DJ plays music for dancing, and the bar area sits at the back, reached through the entrance door. Cocktails come with a happy hour offer, and entertainment is scheduled in the evening. Door staff work the entrance, and a no-single-entry rule applies, which the owner attributes to health and safety.

Customer Review Summary
Door policy dominates the reviews: most reviewers describe being refused entry at the door, often for arriving alone, with several saying the bar looked empty and others were turned away too. The owner's reply, quoted by reviewers, cites health and safety reasons, which they dispute. Some point to solo guests who were let in, and two raise concerns about racism or discrimination. One says a booking was demanded while others walked straight in. Another complaint, from long-time regulars, is the manager turning the music up so loud that people move to the other side of the bar, with the 8pm entertainment called terrible. Praise is thinner. One reviewer calls the bartender funny and lovely and the DJ the best they have come across, keeping people dancing all night. Another found the female door staff friendly, enjoyed two happy hour cocktails and good music, and describes the barman as super friendly. One regular of 13 years calls the bar staff friendly even while calling the management awful.

“The security personnel exhibited an excessive display of authority, denying entry to myself and other patrons to an ostensibly vacant establishment without apparent justification. The individual managing the entrance appeared to be operating under a misapprehension, directing all prospective customers to alternative venues. It is my professional opinion that such conduct would be a cause for significant concern for the proprietor. My sobriety was not a factor in this situation; rather, the security representative indicated that my unaccompanied status was the reason for refusal. This individual appeared to take considerable satisfaction in her decision.”

“I have been attending the bar for a few years, meeting friends every week. We have all noticed such a decline in the service and the attitude of the manager. Every week he comes in yanks the music up so loud and you visibly see half the people pick up their drinks and leave to the other bar or drink up and leave the premises. I have worked in many bars in my life, the manager would always greet the customers as friends and especially the regulars, you can tell it’s not his business as he feels he is too good to serve customers even though this affects profits. So many people complain I wonder if he would act this way if someone from head office was to visit the premises. Just to asses how the negative effect he has on the staff , would be frowned upon when working. It’s very sad that you spend money to make the venue look good and there is such a negative influence with a manager like Hassan .”

“One of the best gay bars in London! Ivan, the bartender, is amazing, professional, funny, and genuinely lovely. He definitely deserves a pay rise! 😁 Vivian Bam Bam is the best DJ I've come across in any bar so far. Their music selection and style can keep people dancing all night, even without a drop of alcohol. Village is an absolute must-visit if you want to have a fantastic night out in London.”

“I walked up to the door alone and was refused entry because “no singles allowed” this is a bizarre policy. As someone who travels solo often i have never experienced this excuse before and cant wrap my head around why you wouldnt allow a single person to enter. Another single person in the line behind me even tried to tell them that i can join him and the bouncer refused, and let that person is as a single person while putting an arm out to push me to the side. Keep in mind i was sober so being drunk was not an excuse, the only other reason i can think of is that im visibly Arab so was refused entry based on that (i really hope thats not the case). The owner states “health and safety concerns” as a reason but doesnt explain how a single person going for a drink is a health and safety concern? Edit: the owners answer is complete BS for a number of reasons. 1. A white twink walked in alone with no issues 2. I was meeting a date for a drink inside, which i relayed to the bouncer, she didnt care and still refused me entry 3. She asked me random quesions about the layout of the place, which i answered because ive been there before. Which shows it was more about me looking like a threat and not a gay patron (i.e my ethnicity) rather than a “health and safety issue” 4. I have been to GAY, Feedom, Shadow Lounge (when it was open) , Admiral etc all solo with no issues.”

“Security staff great, bar staff friendly. Been a regular here for the last 13 years. The management is awful. The manager turns the music up to unhealthy levels and closes his eyes to anyone else. Drives the punters to the other side of the bar due to horrendous noise for the terrible 8pm “entertainment”. Horrible little man attitude, walks around oblivious to customer needs. Staff don’t even like him. Sooner he goes the better.”
