About The Drop Bar

The Drop Bar is an art deco-influenced wine bar and grill in London, set under the roof of Coal Drops Yard at Unit 22-24 Bagley Walk Arches, with barrels outside the door. The wine list draws from around the world, mainly Spain, Italy and France, and includes orange wine and Cava. The staff talk customers through the list and the food menu. That menu follows a modern British approach, with Welsh rarebit toasties, a ploughman selection and a meat and cheese board. The bar is walk-in, usually busy, and seating is limited. Football matches are shown on screen.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the wine, especially the staff's willingness to talk through the list. One describes being walked through an orange wine for the first time, another praises the recommendations matched to their tastes, and a third calls the Cava perfect. Meat and cheese boards, a ploughman selection and a Welsh rarebit toastie come up as the food, with the boards described as decent in size and quality, though one reviewer found the cheese platter below expectations and another thought the snack options were few. Diners like the outdoor barrels and the lights across the Yard roof, and a few call it a good spot for a drink before dinner, though some note it gets busy and could use more seating. Service divides opinion. Several praise the team, while others report rude staff, a charged cider that was not available, and toasties that arrived after a long delay as one slice of toast with a side salad. During a World Cup match, one reviewer says staff argued with customers who asked for the sound to be turned up.

“Great place to meet up and drink before dinner. Good vibe and speedy service. Could do with more seating as it gets quite busy.”

“Nick provided excellent service from start to finish. His knowledge of the wine list was exceptional, and he took the time to talk me through the different options without ever making me feel rushed. He encouraged a genuine conversation about what I enjoy drinking, offered thoughtful recommendations, and gave advice that was both knowledgeable and well suited to my tastes. His attentiveness and passion for wine really elevated the experience. I’ll definitely be back.”

“Great manger, team was outstanding. Football wasn’t too loud and atmosphere was great. Drinks tasted really delicious too. Couldn’t recommend this place enough. How could I forget Nikolay, was so lovely”

“Only went to this very overpriced bar (with a surprisingly limited menu) because they were showing the world cup. They played the game with the volume so low that no one could hear it and then argued very rudely with all the customers who asked them to turn it up. They started off by saying the volume couldn't physically be any louder and it was at maximum, then changed their story to say it was an entirely different reason that the volume was low and that it had to be kept low. The manager told us that if we don't like it we can leave - fair point to be fair but the game had already started and I had already spent money at the bar thinking I'd have a nice place to watch the game. Honestly wouldn't be so mad, because I understand that they truly may be limited to certain volumes, but the manager was so incredibly rude to us that it genuinely frustrated me enough to write this review. Won't be coming back, unsurprisingly, and would be happy if some stranger reads this and decides to go somewhere else. Warmest regards, Table 3.”

“Not the best experience. Charged for a cider that they then didn't have. Ordered 2 Welsh rarebit toasties for £9.50 each and the waitress forgot to put the order through so it took over half an hour for them to arrive and when they did they were one slice of toast and a side salad. Very poor value for money.”
