About Home Farm Restaurant

Set in Home Farm at Speke Hall, Home Farm Restaurant is a daytime cafe in Liverpool that takes walk-ins and welcomes dogs. Ordering happens at a counter with a cashier, and queues can build at busy times. The menu runs to around 32 items, with baked potatoes served alongside coleslaw and salad, one version topped with veg chilli, and toasties including cheese and ham. Soup arrives with bread or toast, a Thai squash soup coming with bloomer bread, and pre-packed sandwiches sit alongside for anyone eating on the move. Cakes such as an orange and lemon cake round out the counter, with lattes and other hot drinks poured to order. It opens daily during the day. Indoor seating can be hard to come by at the busiest points, and the boards and the online menu do not always match what is actually available on the day.

Customer Review Summary

The complaints are specific. Several say the menu has narrowed, with one longtime visitor noting that homemade sandwiches and a range of hot food have given way to pre-packed sandwiches and toasties. Another says the menu boards were misleading and an order took three attempts. A toasted beef baguette is described as looking like a yule log, and a baked potato with veg chilli and a side of coleslaw were called tasteless. Others mention overpriced food, queues and crowded indoor seating, and one says coffee in a reusable takeaway cup came out cold and bland. One reviewer found a cashier cold and unhelpful when asking what a bap was, while another calls the staff friendly.

“This used to be an excellent restaurant home made sandwiches , range of hot food and lovely cakes . All changed now they only do pre packed prepared sandwiches and toasties. Baked potatoes ok but tiny for £8.50 . It’s a shame as have been to other national trust properties and the food is much better.”

“It's alright place for the site, overpriced as you would expect, indoor seating can be a fight at times, queues can easily be 10 mins long. Top tip: do not take coffee in their reusable takeaway cups as it will be cold, bland and smelly …”

“Disaster. Who would toast a beef baguette? Looked like a yule log. Server senior lady, being kind i would say not very good. …”

“Left a lot to be desired. Cashier (ginger girl) was cold and unhelpful when politely asked for more info on what came in the meals or questions like what’s a “bap”? They didn’t have really anything that was on the menus on Google, which was disappointing to begin with. Ended up getting a baked potato with veg chilli on it that tasted like absolutely nothing even with added salt. Coleslaw was very raw carrots and greens tasted like just lettuce with no dressing. Both were tasteless. Worst meal we had in the UK. Coffees were fine. Speke hall was great to visit though and staff inside were lovely and engaging.”
