About No. Thirty 8

No. Thirty 8 is a restaurant on Westgate in Lincoln, set close to the city's historic quarter. The kitchen runs a table d'hôte menu that shifts weekly and seasonally, with named dishes drawn from that rotation including beef steak, belly pork with a toffee apple accompaniment, and salmon mousse served with caviar. A three-course set is offered on Monday evenings. Drinks span cocktails such as a Cherry Sour and a Cosmopolitan, coffee, and a wine, beer and spirits list. Private functions including weddings are hosted on site, and a beer garden sits outside for warmer days. Tables are booked in advance, with the team accommodating dietary needs and extra requests during the meal. Sticky toffee pudding appears on the dessert side of the menu.

Customer Review Summary

Diners single out the table d'hote menu, with the belly pork and sticky toffee pudding drawing repeated praise, and one reviewer calling the three courses for £25 excellent value. Several mention the attentive staff, a warm atmosphere, and a wine list that one diner says surpasses itself. A return visit for another meal is already planned by more than one guest.

“An exceptional lunchtime dining experience in all respects. Quality ingredients prepared with obvious skill and attention to detail and plated up with finesse. Let's not forget the wine list, and here I must say it surpasses itself. The fact that the menu changes each week also points to an establishment that actually loves food, thinks creatively and values the loyalty of those who wish to return for something new.”

“Excellent. Table d'hote dinner on a Monday night. Small choice range but delicious and plentiful food, 3 courses for £25 amazing value! Good range of wines, beers and spirits, again at very reasonable prices. A real find, highly recommended.”

“Haven't visited for a meal here in years but came back for a late lunch sitting and was pleasently surprised by everything offered here. Food was delicious with generous portions, staff were attentive but not over the top. Priced well and warm busy atmosphere. Very happy and will go again soon. Update. Sat in the beer garden enjoying the pleasant setting and good drinks. Still a great place to go. 06/26”

“I booked an early evening mid-week table for a cozy birthday celebration with my girlfriend. The atmosphere was perfect for easy chatting, the staff accommodated any request we had for additional sauces & bread throughout our meal, with the courses arriving at just the right intervals. The "table d'hort" menu is competitively priced and the quality & flavours were exceptional. We will deffinately look to visit again with the expectation of a seasonal variation in the menu whilst delivering the same quality and flavours as tonight.”

“**I went to a wedding… and accidentally found a restaurant worth coming back for (on purpose).** Let’s start with the belly pork — because honestly, I haven’t stopped thinking about it since. It didn’t just melt in the mouth, it completely gave up on life the second it hit the fork. Absolute perfection. I’d have happily eaten a second… possibly a third… and then blamed it on “research.” And then came the pudding. Now, I’d like to say I showed restraint — I didn’t. In fact, I ended up sampling someone else’s as well, purely in the name of fairness, obviously. It was that good. A proper little touch as well — a tiny toffee apple served with the pork. Didn’t expect it, didn’t question it, devoured it. The staff were spot on throughout — attentive, switched on, and clearly working hard to keep everything running smoothly, especially for a wedding. Photos genuinely don’t do the food justice (and considering one of mine’s done the rounds a bit, that’s saying something). Safe to say this won’t be a one-off. I’ll be back — next time for a date night, not just as a wedding guest. Highly recommended.”
