About Dodies

Breakfast, lunch and coffee shape the day at Dodies, a café on High Street in Leicester. Mornings run to a cooked menu with a full English breakfast, and the midday side of the counter turns to sandwiches and hot filled options alongside a ploughman's. Baking sits next to the coffee, where a custard tart joins the cakes and a mocha is a straightforward order. A couple run the place and work on site. No booking is taken, so customers arrive and order at the counter. Tables outside give the option of eating in the open air, and dogs are welcome, which suits walkers stopping for a coffee. The café keeps daytime hours from Monday to Saturday and stays closed on Sundays.

Customer Review Summary

Coffee anchors most visits, whether paired with breakfast or with cake in the afternoon, and one regular singles out the mocha. Close behind comes the breakfast, with the full English praised as well cooked and one weekly pair calling the sausage sandwich one of the best they have had. Lunch specifics recur too: the brie, bacon and cranberry and the garlic mushroom paninis, a ploughman's described as filling and reasonably priced, the quiche, and a BLT. The sweet side gets its own roll call, from the custard tart and egg tart to the trillionaire shortbread, the fudge, the pancakes and the cakes served at a Mother's Day afternoon tea. Several reviewers expressly recommend the toasties, pancakes, egg tart and BLT. The couple who run it are described as warm and always smiling, several mention the cafe being dog friendly, and one notes alternative milks are never an issue. Regulars return in part because their usual order is remembered without being asked.

“Found this place by off chance.... What a great find!! Absolutely loved what we had, so full of flavour, reasonably priced and good size!! My mum and I shared our panini's. We had one Brie, Bacon and Cranberry and a Garlic Mushroom. We also had a custard tart and a trillionaire shortbread. Was a lovely experience, staff members were kind and helpful. We will be back!!”

“We come here every week and have a sausage sandwich and a coffee, it’s genuinely one of the best sausage sandwiches you will have! We’ve had most items on the menu and it’s all excellent! The couple that run it are also great, remember our orders, always have a smile on their face and take pride in their business. Its always busy and has a homie atmosphere.”

“Fantastic little café, great breakfast and coffee, great service and good value for money. Very accommodating of a large group of walkers, thank you! Free parking just around the corner on School Road. Note: there is a toilet, but you have to go around the outside of the shop to the rear to access it.”

“I have been to Dodie's quite a few times since I moved to the area and always have a lovely experience. All the staff are very warm and welcoming, they make it a pleasure to visit. It can get busy at times but it's good the place is getting so much business! They do a great mocha, and the quiche and sweet treats are very tasty too. Recently came in and sat down for a ploughman's, which was delicious, reasonably priced and very filling. I always look forward to popping in 😊”
