About The Avenue Fish Bar
The Avenue Fish Bar is a fish and chips takeaway on The Avenue in Leek, just off the main road through the village and near the Peak District. The shop works on a walk-in basis. Fish comes as cod or haddock, in small, medium and large portions, with chips and peas as sides. Haddock and chips is on the menu, and the chicken and mushroom pukka pie gives a choice beyond fish. Sausage is also on the menu.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers come mainly for the fish and chips, with the haddock singled out as fresh and flaking as the batter breaks, and one diner appreciating being asked whether they wanted cod or haddock. One long-time customer says the batter was still crisp and warm after a fifteen minute drive home. Close behind is the staff, described as friendly, including when the shop is busy, with one reviewer noting they always had time for a joke. Others mention a chicken and mushroom pie with perfectly done pastry that arrived steaming, along with fresh chips and a sausage burger. Portions are generally called good, though one reviewer calls it a bit pricey, and the shop is described as clean. The complaints are specific and not minor. One reviewer received a medium fish with rock-hard batter and pasty looking chips that had to go in the microwave at home, another got a very small fish after ordering a large, and a third threw their chips away after four bites. Even so, the warmest praise centers on a haddock that flaked as the batter broke.

“Stopped off at this chippy on the way back to depot. The staff are really friendly, the portion sizes are really good, its a bit on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. I got the haddock and chips, the fish was really fresh and flaked as you broke through the batter. You got a decent portion of chips with it as well I'll definitely be dropping off here again, when im working in the area.”
