Quick info
About Bab Tooma Leeds
Bab Tooma Leeds is a Syrian restaurant in Roundhay, on Roundhay Rd, and it opens daily. The brand's flagship opened in Bradford in August 2016 as the first authentic Syrian restaurant in West Yorkshire, which gives the Leeds branch a Syrian menu with roots in that original site. A complimentary lentil soup is served to start. The kitchen prepares Arabic-style chicken shawarma, and mint and cardamom Arabic tea arrives in a teapot. Alcohol is not on the menu.

Customer Review Summary
Shawarma comes up most, from an Arabic-style chicken version called delicious to a Shawarma Harrah with a watery sauce and another chicken shawarma described as slightly dry. Close behind are the mujadara, called phenomenal and a fun rice dish, and the kabsa rice, along with knafeh with ice cream and the complimentary lentil soup served at the start. Appetisers such as falafel, sujuk and beetroot and feta salad drew unanimous praise from one large group. Mains are less consistent. Lamb chops were chewy for one table, the tahini fish had a sharp sourness, and the musakaa was oily and lacked flavour. One reviewer describes dirty, smelly toilets, and another says an online order arrived with spilled masala and a small portion. Staff are repeatedly called attentive and friendly, and one waitress offered to replace a dish a diner was not enjoying.

“I ordered food online, and it was a very disappointing experience. disgusting and the packaging was in terrible condition. All the masala had spilled inside and outside, making it look like the packaging had already been used or was carelessly handled. It was messy and completely unappetizing. The quantity was far less than expected, and the quality of the food was equally poor. waste of money, and I would not recommend ordering from here.”

“This was our second time there. Absolutely loved the food as usual. Kabsa rice was so flavourful and mujadara was phenomenol. The salad was lacking pita chips . It should have more pita chips other than that i really loved it. Definitely going again .”

“Excellent meal. Ordered ‘the Feast’ which was an array of different grilled meats with rice and flatbreads for two people. All delicious ! Enough to bring home for lunch tomorrow. Just spicy enough. Service was fabulous. Keren annd Yaman were attentive but not too in your face. Smiley and helpful. Great service. Sat outside in the sunshine with our dog. Fabulous in this weather. Highly recommended 🌟”

“Jasmine was our waitress and she was very lovely. She kept checking on us and making sure everything was okay. She could tell I wasn’t really enjoying one of the dishes and kindly offered to replace it, which was excellent customer service. The knafeh and ice cream were delicious, and I really enjoyed the salad too! The Shawarma Harrah had a nice flavour, but I felt the sauce was a little watery, almost as if it had been taken off the pan a bit early. To be fair, we visited around 40 minutes before closing and didn’t realise the restaurant closed at 10pm, so they may have been rushing to finish up. That’s on us really—we should have checked the opening times online beforehand. I also have to admit that being pregnant probably doesn’t help with my enjoyment of food at the moment, as my tastes seem to change all the time! Jasmine recommended a kebab dish with a choice of Arabic rice or chips instead, and I thought that was much better suited to my taste than the Shawarma Harrah. Overall, we had a pleasant experience, the desserts were excellent, and Jasmine’s attentiveness and customer service really stood out. Thank you, Jasmine! 😊”

“Bab Tooma is the first authentic Syrian restaurant in West Yorkshire, with its flagship branch established on Wilton Street, Bradford, in August 2016. More than just a restaurant, Bab Tooma is a dream turned reality—a vibrant social hub where people from diverse backgrounds come together, enriching the social fabric of the British community. From the Arabian décor to the enticing aromas of freshly prepared dishes, every detail transports you to the heart of Damascus. Driven by the growing demand for Middle Eastern cuisine in West Yorkshire, the journey began when its founder, while studying in Leeds, recognised the need for an authentic Syrian dining experience. Eyad Charbatji’s vision led to the creation of Bab Tooma”
