Customer Review Summary

Kirkstall Brewery beers and cask ales draw the most praise, with reviewers calling the pints spot on and the selection excellent, and the brewery sits just down the road. Close behind is the fish and chips, which two diners call excellent, one adding that the regular portion was plenty and the curry sauce on the side was a good call. The multi-roomed interior, with its old rooms, squeaky floors and proper old boozer feel, gets repeated mention, alongside friendly staff and quiet corners for a drink. One reviewer also likes the gigs held here. Cost is the main complaint. One reviewer says three drinks came to eighteen pounds and describes the pub as grimy, tired and half-empty, with a dimly lit rear smoking yard and worn, stained furnishings. Another finds the prices and beer on the high side but understandable given portion sizes, and says the toilets need a revamp. Another describes a locals pub where everyone knows the barstaff, with little welcome outside that bubble.

“A Pub Slowly Dying on Its Feet 😢 Grimy, tired and expensive. That pretty much sums the place up. Three drinks came to £18.00. Eighteen quid. In a pub that looks like it has been slowly losing the will to live for the last decade. I remember when this place was full of life. It used to be packed, buzzing and difficult to find a seat. Now it feels half-empty, with students making up most of the crowd and an atmosphere that feels more like a waiting room than a proper ale house. The rear yard is the designated smoking area, which feels less like a beer garden and more like a dimly lit ginnel where you'd hesitate to walk alone at night. Not exactly somewhere you'd choose to linger over a pint. Inside, the furnishings have clearly seen better days. The history of the pub is written into every worn surface, stained corner and tired piece of furniture. There's a certain charm to an old pub having a bit of character, but this feels less like character and more like neglect. And then there are the prices. At £18 for three drinks, it's difficult not to wonder who they're expecting to keep coming through the door. With pubs closing at an alarming rate, prices like these certainly aren't helping. This place feels like a pub that has been left standing after the life has already drained out of it. The lights are still on, the pumps are still working, but the soul seems to have quietly slipped out the back door. Not long now, I fear.”

“The fish and chips were excellent! I got the regular-sized portion and I'm a big guy- it was more than enough. The curry sauce on the side was a good call as well. I had a few beers, which were also great, as was the friendly service.”

“Was grand. Felt like a real locals pub with everyone knowing each other and the barstaff and little welcome outside that bubble. Pints were good and no complaints about the cask beers.”
