Quick info
About The Sir Richard Owen
The Sir Richard Owen is a Wetherspoons pub at 4 Spring Garden St in Lancaster. Guests enter through an older upstairs section, and a steep stair leads down to a more modern downstairs, where the bar is semi-circular. The extension that replaced the old beer garden holds a log-burner and booths, which gives groups and couples a place to settle by the fire. Cask ales from nearby breweries are on offer, and the food menu includes burger and chips, the Korean Burger and a steak and ale pudding, with vegetarian and vegan choices alongside. The pub is walk-in, and orders are placed from the table. Food allergy information is available for anyone checking a dish.

Customer Review Summary
The criticism is about crowding and slow service. One reviewer calls it the worst Wetherspoons they have visited, citing a awkward layout, a steep stair, a semi-circular bar and packs of people hunting for tables, then leaving without ordering food. Another waited a long time, and a party of four received their dishes at three different times. One notes the single staff member on the floor made things a little slow, and another found the gluten free choice very poor, with allergy information hard to find.

“I gave it 3 stars (it's a Wetherspoons after all) having called in for a quick pint and meal. It was early afternoon on a Wednesday so not particularly busy. Friendly staff and efficient service (ordered from table). They have a decent garden/yard to enjoy the sunshine.”

“It's bloody hard to be negative about this pub. I ordered a pint of Murphy's, burger and chips £8.00. Yes £8.00 not £18.00. The staff are very obliging despite being under pressure. .”

“Great place in the middle of Lancaster for a pub-style meal. Plenty of space but fill quickly at meal times. There is food allergy information available but not easily accessed. Very poor gluten free option but vegetarian & vegan choices available.”

“The food was yummy; however, the service was not the best. We waited a long time for our food, and although there were four of us, the dishes arrived at three different times. We weren’t able to eat together, which wasn’t very nice.”
