About The Dabbling Duck Pub Great Massingham
The Dabbling Duck Pub Great Massingham is a family-run gastropub at 11 Abbey Rd in Kings Lynn, with 13 guest rooms that include dog-friendly options and family rooms, plus a dog menu for visiting pets. The kitchen pairs pub classics with its own dishes and uses local produce where it can, with a focus on beef and game. Sunday lunch brings roast beef and roast pork with Yorkshire pudding and cauliflower cheese, and the burger comes on homemade Japanese milk buns. Victoria Sponge ice cream is on the dessert list, and wood-fired pizza is served in the oak barn. A private dining room suits groups, and tables can be booked, including at short notice. The pub also hosts steak nights and a two-day seafood festival in November.

Customer Review Summary
The burger draws the most praise, with homemade Japanese milk buns and American style cheese, and one scampi and burger order was called well cooked. Close behind is the Sunday beef dinner, where one diner added brisket to the Yorkshire pudding and ordered cauliflower cheese, though that reviewer wanted a slightly bigger portion and more gravy. Others mention the full English and eggs royale at breakfast, the Malaysian curry, BBQ butternut squash, Victoria Sponge ice cream and an espresso martini. Service is described as friendly, the village setting as lovely, and the pub as dog-friendly, with its own dog menu. Complaints are specific. One Sunday pork roast arrived after a long wait, dry and only warm, with creamed cabbage missing and apple sauce that tasted like baby food. Another reviewer struggled to get attention to pay the bill at a busy time. One diner was charged wrongly for ice cream and was reimbursed after a phone call, which led to a suggestion to check the bill.

“We came here for breakfast while in the area for our friends’ wedding. The pub is beautifully decorated with really nice touches all over the place. We had a full English and eggs royale. Both were awesome. Delicious bacon & sausage on the fry-up, and lovely smoked salmon on the royale, with perfectly cooked eggs. Great coffee too. The lunch and evening menus sounded just as good. The service was also excellent. Highly recommended”

“Popped in for some lunch to an old favourite. Great experience, well served, staff always friendly. Rosie always adds a personal friendly touch to the experience but the wider team do well also and deliver. Happy to accomodate additional requests and alterations to menu items. As always a venue to return to, knowing you will have a great meal and friendly welcoming homely pub experience.”

“Went here for Sunday lunch at the end of our holiday. My wife, 18 month old son and I. Had read a few mixed reviewed but thought I’d take them with a pinch of salt and make our own opinion. We both had the beef dinner, but I added the brisket to my Yorkshire pudding and my wife ordered a portion of cauliflower cheese. I don’t say this lightly, this was one of the best Sunday lunches I have ever had. The mixture of all the flavours made the meal. If I was being picky I’d say the portion size could have been slightly bigger, maybe an extra roast potato or carrot and being northern, a boat of extra gravy. However this just made enough room for desert. The service was also good and the staff very friendly. The only issue we did have was getting their attention to pay the bill, however I can forgive that as the evening demand had picked up and it only took a minute or two. Overall all I would definitely come again and recommend to a friend.”

“I wanted to love this place. I went for a Sunday lunch with the family and dog before heading back to London after a lovely stay in Norfolk. We had booked a table. The place looked lovely. On arrival, we were seated in, what felt like, a corridor with no other people. We were told that the table we were allocated on booking was near a 'reactive' dog and this would be much quieter. We were never asked what we would prefer. We were the only non-white family in the pub, and it felt like we were being segregated from the rest of the clientele. We often holiday around the UK, and this was the first time I have felt like this. The food took a long time to arrive. Our order included 2 roast pork with all the trimmings - one plate was missing the creamed cabbage. When I pointed this out to the waitress, she just looked at me blankly. I asked for some apple sauce - what arrived looked and tasted like baby food. The pork itself was a bit dry and only warm. The area we were seated also had a lot of flies, which we were constantly batting away from our food. I don't know whether they were being deliberately racist, but they definitely did not make us feel welcome.”

“Food Review: Absolutely loved The Dabbling Duck for lunch. Beautiful, characterful setting, genuinely warm service and really excellent food. The Malaysian curry and BBQ butternut squash were both delicious and beautifully presented. It’s also wonderfully dog-friendly, complete with its own dog menu! An easy five stars and somewhere we’d happily return to.”

The pub also has 13 rooms, ranging from sweet pub rooms, dog friendly and family rooms, to large boutique rooms. They also serve wood-fired pizza on Friday and Saturdays in their oak barn outside/inside area. Keep an eye out for their popular events throughout the year, particularly their steak nights, and two day seafood festival in November.”
