About The Old Moathouse
Opposite the entrance to Kidwelly Castle on Castle St, The Old Moathouse is a restaurant in Kidwelly set in a Grade II listed building. The evening menu centres on tapas-style small plates with Spanish and British influences, and it changes over time. Croquetas and Sobrassada with fried egg sit among the sharing dishes, and a separate menu covers main courses. Sunday lunch is served as a roast, with lamb, pork belly and beef among the options. A Welsh cheese board is on offer, and the drinks list leans on Welsh craft beers and ciders from independent breweries. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch is the most frequent draw, with reviewers praising the tender lamb and beef, the pork belly and a roast they say tastes homemade. Small plates come close behind, and diners name the croquetas, the Sobrassada with fried egg, the battered fried squid and the pate. One reviewer suggests ordering four or five small dishes rather than a whole meal. A cheese board of Welsh cheeses and a good selection of Welsh craft beers and wines also get mentioned. Several place the pub right beside Kidwelly Castle, as a stop before or after a visit, and describe the staff as friendly, with outdoor seating also noted. The one complaint comes from a Sunday diner who was seated in a quiet room that was not busy, calling it the only disappointment. Another, who had booked for a full Friday evening, still got a table inside. For dessert, one reviewer describes the Burnt Basque cheesecake with pear sorbet as heaven on a plate.

“Great little place right next to Castell Cydweli! Making it an ideal pre or post castle meal. Nice selection of beers and unique food combinations.”

“Stopped in for lunch after a visit to the castle today and so glad we did - the food was absolutely outstanding - we ordered a tapas style selection of small plates/dishes to share and they were all sensational. The outdoor seating area was also fantastic. Very, very highly recommended 👌”

“Wow, what a place! We came for a Sunday lunch and we were blown away by everything that this pub/restaurant has to offer. Super friendly staff, gorgeous interiors and location, and of course the most delicious food! We cannot wait to visit again, and will make the 1hr 30min journey just to try more of the menu. There are excellent craft beers and wines on offer too. 10/10 for The Old Moathouse. So glad we found this place.”

“Really great food. I suggest getting at least 4 to 5 of the small things rather than a whole meal. The cook is amazing. He can do British, Spanish, American and all kinds of other foods. Right in front of Kidwelly Castle. The castle is also super interesting.”

“Lovely Sunday lunch, the Lamb and Beef was so tasty and tender. The only disappointment was we were sat in a quiet room that surprisingly wasn't busy. Other than that it's a 10/10”
