About The Greenhouse Restaurant

The Greenhouse Restaurant is a modern British restaurant in Kendal, based in a hotel with its own bar. Dining runs on a set menu of two or three courses, and single dishes cannot be ordered separately, so guests choose a course count and then pick from the list. The starter selection is short, and vegan dishes are adapted from the vegetarian options. Sticky toffee pudding appears among the desserts. The bar serves bar food earlier in the day, which gives guests a lighter option before the set menu service.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the atmosphere and friendly staff. Named dishes include the duck leg, fish and chips with mushy peas, a huge chicken Caesar salad and sticky toffee pudding. Others find portions small and vegan options thin, and object to the automatic service charge. One diner reported dry chicken and a lemonade gin served instead of the peach frizz ordered.

“A nicely situated hotel, cum restaurant, with extensive space inside for small or large groups and events. Excellent customer service, especially, Shannon who welcomed us and took our orders for lunch. I had the crispy fish and chips with mushy peas and my friend had a huge chicken Caesar salad. There were a mere 3 items for starters, so a limited menu. Prices are higher than a typical country pub, but the quality is high. Expect to pay at least 20 pounds for a main. There was a good view over the carpark towards Kendal. Free parking.”

“Friendly and helpful staff, amazing food and the best sticky toffee pud you can get!”
  • Leo Tadgan
“The bar looks great, but the service doesn’t live up to it. The staff could use some training in customer service, and honestly, the drinks are way too pricey for how they’re served. The food was pretty good on the other hand.”

“Really cool atmosphere, our personal service, a young brunette, was also really attentive and friendly. The duck leg was good. But thats it. One meal was too salty, the chicken was cooked dry and none of us got satisfied with the portions, even though we all had starters. Drinks came wrong twice, ordered white peach frizz, which we had before and had a good peach taste, first got a g&t, then after noting that to staff i was served some kind of lemonade gin, after noting that i again got the wrong drink i had the service staff come to me to assure in a not friendly way there was peach in it (there was no peach). Old fashioned was bad, wine glass and some spoons were also dirty, which i expect to be cleaned for a mid fine dining restaurant. Really disappointing experience.”
