About Sultan Persian Restaurant
Persian cooking sets the menu at Sultan Persian Restaurant, a Persian restaurant and cafe on Cottingham Road in Hull. The kitchen builds around Persian classics, with chicken fesenjan plated alongside saffron rice, and dolma and kubideh kabab sitting on the same list, so a table can share grilled and stewed dishes in one sitting. Rice comes plain as well as saffron. The dining room opens daily, and booking ahead is advised. A step-free, wheelchair-accessible entrance lets visitors with mobility needs get in without a step, and high chairs mean families with young children can sit down together. The owner is present in the dining room, greeting and looking after tables. A dessert course follows the meal, including a mixed dessert plate, and tea is poured alongside.

Customer Review Summary
The kebabs draw the most comment, and the accounts split sharply. Several single out the kubideh and the mixed kebabs, with the chicken moist and the lamb tender rather than tough or chewy, while two dissatisfied diners describe the reverse: one found every kebab overcooked and burnt to the point of being impossible to eat, and another reports half a chicken skewer arriving undercooked and inedible, with saffron rice replaced by plain white rice. Close behind sit the dolma and the chicken fesenjan, both named more than once and expressly recommended, alongside rice called softly aromatic and lightly spiced. Desserts and tea also come up, though one reviewer objected to paying for a very small cup while another described the tea as complimentary and lovely, and one was not a fan of the naan. Warmth from the owner and staff recurs, including remembering what regulars like to eat, and several describe food cooked fresh to order and smelled from the table.

“The owner is incredibly kind and always remembers what you like to eat and your personal preferences. It’s clear that a lot of care and attention goes into everything they do. A truly heartfelt restaurant experience — and the food is absolutely delicious, with generous portions too!”

“Worst food I’ve ever had. I’ve never had food like this before — all the kebabs were overcooked and burnt, making them impossible to eat. They also charged £2.50 for a very small cup of tea, which is ridiculous. I honestly feel robbed after spending £58 on such poor-quality food. I would not recommend this restaurant at all. Avoid this place — it feels like they are just taking advantage of customers.”
