About Benedicts

Benedicts is a sandwich shop and fast food takeaway on Cottingham Rd in Hull, serving daytime only from Monday to Saturday and closed Sundays. Sausage rolls come in chilli and jalapeng varieties, alongside toasties and sandwiches made to order, including chilli beef and fajita chicken. Standard sandwiches are offered across a range of bread options, and daily specials such as New Yorker steak and caramelised onions add variety to the counter. Breakfast wraps and salad boxes round out the menu for those wanting something outside the sandwich format. There is no seating for browsing a menu at length, as orders are taken on a walk-in basis rather than by booking, with food made fresh to order at the counter. The shop suits anyone after a quick meal to take away rather than a sit-down visit.

Customer Review Summary

Homemade sausage rolls come up most often, with reviewers praising the pastry and the selection, and singling out the chilli and jalapeño versions. Sandwiches sit close behind. One diner raves about a chilli beef ciabatta and a fajita chicken sandwich, another about a wrap of cheese, beef, egg, peanut butter and salad cream, and others mention toasties, a hot panini and a breakfast wrap. Specials draw praise too, including a New Yorker steak with caramelised onions. Reviewers call the prices reasonable and the staff friendly and welcoming. The main complaint is the wait. One regular who has been back several times says food takes a while to be served and ready, accepts that it is fresh, and only visits when there is time to spare. Another reviewer describes the service as quick. One fussy eater says the staff made something that wasn't on the menu.

“Absolutely unreal sandwiches. I popped in today and got a chilli beef ciabatta, and also picked up a fajita chicken sandwich for my partner. Honestly… neither of us could stop eating. My partner kept saying how full she was, even dealing with indigestion, but still couldn’t stop because it was that good. The chilli beef was unreal. I actually wanted her to try it, but at the same time I didn’t want to share it at all — so I didn’t 😂 I had the whole thing to myself and I’m very glad I did. So impressed with the quality, flavour, and portion size. Properly great sandwiches. We’ll 100% be back. Oh my God.”

“The toasties and sausages rolls are amazing, I've been 5 times now, and tried something new every time. I tried the cookie yesterday too, which was lovely. The guys are friendly and prices are reasonable. My only negative would be the wait time, each time has taken 15-20 minutes to be served and food ready, I appreciate it's fresh, and I only come when I know I have a little extra time, but if it was a little quicker, I'd come more often. Overall, a lovely place for a bite to eat.”

“Really great sandwich shop, with quick friendly service. I've been in a few times before realised that I've not left a review yet. If you're looking for a breakfast or lunch snack then do yourself a favour and cross the road from Lidl or Sainsbury, and treat yourself to a proper sandwich (or one of their great sausage rolls)!”
