About Sandhill Nurseries Cafe
Sandhill Nurseries Cafe is a garden centre cafe in Hull, on Preston, with a restaurant area that has plenty of tables and is open daily. Breakfast comes as a full plate of sausage, bacon, hash browns, egg, grilled tomato, beans and toast, with a pot of tea served alongside. A small breakfast is available for lighter appetites. The counter carries cakes and sandwiches, and the hot food includes a steak and ale pasty with chips and gravy, as well as a steak pie with mash and vegetables. The menu is shorter than it was a few years ago, and hot food is not always available at weekends.

Customer Review Summary
Breakfast draws the most praise, led by a full breakfast of large sausages, bacon, hash browns, a free range egg and grilled tomato, with one reviewer noting the white bloomer toast was good for mopping up yolk. A steak pie with mash and vegetables, small breakfasts with cappuccinos, and a spacious, clean restaurant with plenty of tables also earn good words, and several mention friendly staff and short waits for food. Complaints are frequent and specific. Several say the menu has shrunk and the standard has slipped, with one describing inedible sausages, an uncooked cold tomato and toast shoved on the side. Two visits on a Saturday and a Thursday found no hot food or no menu, leaving one reviewer with two dry, hard cakes. One felt a steak and ale pasty with chips and gravy was charged as a set meal at far above the items' individual prices. Others raise the lack of dog access and a refusal to supply two cups with one pot of tea, which led to half pots being thrown away.

“Nice selection of food and didn't have to wait long to be served, plenty of tables and clean”

“Still the only garden centre cafe in East Yorkshire that’s not dog friendly. Can’t even buy at the counter and head outside. Also it’s a Saturday on Mother’s Day weekend and no hot food, although reviews suggest it had gone downhill, so maybe a blessing. Place was empty which unfortunately tells a story, used to be packed.”

“Over time the food quality had dropped, no longer use here for a breakfast as the standard got quite bad, sausages inedible, tomato not cooked and cold and toast shoved on the side instead of a separate plate, evident cheap produce used..today popped in and was met at the cafe door with lots of paper notices stuck to them, one saying no hot food...on a Saturday...only what is on the counter...sorry but it is the weekend when most people are out and about....why even bother? Used to be so busy and with a great menu....would not even contemplate bothering now....should just close the cafe completely. Online advertising is misleading...gives the impression of much more and that a full menu served everyday....”

“I travelled a long way for a Thursday morning breakfast only to find a non-existent menu. I ended up with two dry, hard and flavourless cakes for £8. The staff were slow and missed labelling a whole shelf with a 50% discount when in reality it was a single product. It’s no wonder this place is empty. Don’t bother visiting.”

“Menu much reduced from a few years ago but still serves quality food and generous portions. One criticism is that they refuse to give you 2 cups with one pot of tea. There's plenty of tea for 2 in one pot. Two half pots of tea were thrown away.”
