About Crooked Billet Stoke Row
Crooked Billet Stoke Row is a gastropub and country inn in Henley On Thames, on The Greyhound street. Its marquee and secret garden host weddings, and the marquee also stages occasional live music nights, with dinner served before the performance. The menu is extensive and adds Specials of the Day, including mussels in a rich tomato sauce. Sunday lunch runs on its own menu, with the roast served alongside separate veg extras and a three-course deal. For dessert, the kitchen makes a vanilla and pear cheesecake. Reservations are required, and a private dining room gives groups a space of their own. The team is knowledgeable about allergies, and dairy and gluten intolerances are catered for.

Customer Review Summary
Mussels in a rich tomato sauce come up most, with reviewers calling them perfectly cooked and the tastiest they have had. Close behind are the duck, described as crispy-skinned and cooked to perfection, and the Sunday roast, with lamb, pork, veal and beef all chosen at one table. Also named are the chicken liver parfait, scallops, sea bass, lemon sole, and desserts such as a vanilla and pear cheesecake and an apple and berry crumble. Reviewers describe the menu as extensive, to the point that choosing is hard, and praise generous portions and a warm, relaxed atmosphere. Service is called friendly and knowledgeable about allergies. Music nights in the marquee draw praise for the close view of the performance, with dinner served beforehand. The caveats are modest. One reviewer found the portions generous but a little pricey, the black pudding could have been warmer and the ciabatta a little dry, and another noted a few disappointing visits with higher prices and lower food standards before a return trip that felt special again. One diner mentions the raucous, noisy birthday table during a Sunday lunch.

“What a fabulous lunch. We were invited as guests to a 70th birthday lunch and had the most amazing afternoon. The food was simply scrumptious, the staff were so courteous, welcoming and attentive. Nothing to fault whatsoever but the food was out of this world. What a team they have in that kitchen! Such a great new 'find' for us and we will be returning very soon.”

“Have been going here for years, the service is always lovely as is the atmosphere. So nice to have wonderful food and be taken such good care of in a place that still feels relaxed and warm. After a few disappointing visits (higher prices and lower standard of food than previously) we returned recently and it was again as special as it had been before. Highly recommend!”

“Although I was a little apprehensive when we saw the vast menu ... it is more of an issue having to make a decision,as there were do many incredible sounding dishes. We were a party of four on a very, very busy lunch service two days before Christmas and I am dairy and gluten intolerant, but nothing was an issue, and every dish was cooked and delivered with perfection. Thank you for a wonderful, relaxed meal - we will be back soon to try out more!”

“We attended a music night on Tuesday. The performance was in the marquee with dinner served before the performance, which started at 20:30. It is a great space, which is intimate and aligned with the quirky pub. Everyone has a great line of sight, and the music fills the room. We saw the Moscow Drug Club, who are a sensational jazz band playing new arrangements of classics. The food is excellent and service professional and friendly. Highly recommended! Last night was the excellent Nigel Kennedy, what a talent! And you are so close to the performance!”
