About Gilbert's Beach Bar & Kitchen
Gilbert's Beach Bar & Kitchen is a restaurant in Hayle on N Quay, with seating that looks over the estuary and the beach. Dogs are welcome at the tables, and water bowls and treats are brought out for them, which suits walkers stopping with a pet. The menu includes the Fuzzy Duck pizza on a thin, crispy base, and fish and chips served with a curry-style sauce. Loaded fries come as the Dirty Duck and the Dirty Pig. Steak dishes include steak frites and steak with king prawns. The bar mixes cocktails and mocktails, so there is a drink for those who want one without alcohol. Eating areas are spread across indoor, outdoor and covered spaces. The kitchen also serves breakfast, with iced coffee among the drinks.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return most to the beachside setting, with outdoor tables overlooking the estuary and beach described as beautiful and stunning, plus a covered area that kept one family dry on a cold, wet day. Loaded fries draw the most food praise, namely the Dirty Duck and Dirty Pig, with the Fuzzy Duck pizza, steak with king prawns, steak frites, salt and pepper squid and chowder also singled out. Cocktails, mocktails, a chai latte and iced coffee earn good mentions, and a few praise the breakfast. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and prompt. Complaints are scattered. One reviewer found a Madri watered-down and the Korean sticky chicken lacking in flavour for the price, another was surprised the fish and chips came with a curry-style sauce, and one wanted more non-chilli options. One reviewer reports seeing fries plated without gloves, and another notes only Pepsi is stocked. Several praise the welcome for dogs, including one whose two dogs were brought treats and a bowl of fresh water.

“This place is absolutely amazing. The food menu is fab, with something for everyone. The beers on offer and cocktails are also fantastic. I would say that you could spend all day in and around this, on the estuary and beach (watching out for the tide!) Doggy friendly and just an unbelievable place, well done to all the staff and owners for creating such a beautiul place. Thank you!”

“You MUST try this place if you are in Hayle … We ended up visiting Gilbert’s twice during our week in Hayle, which says it all really. The first time we stopped in for cocktails and the Dirty Duck fries, which were so good we knew we had to come back. On our second visit we had the steak with king prawns and it was cooked perfectly. The staff were lovely on both visits, really friendly, welcoming and attentive without being over the top. The service was spot on. The setting is one of the best things about Gilbert’s. Sitting outside overlooking the beach is just beautiful, especially on a sunny day. It’s also really dog friendly, which was a big plus for us. Our two dogs were made to feel just as welcome as we were, with treats and a bowl of fresh water brought over. If you’re in Hayle, it’s well worth a visit. Great food, good cocktails, lovely staff and an amazing location. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Cornwall.”

“We went there twice on our holiday, and both times were amazing. The iced coffee and breakfast were absolutely perfect! We'll totally be back when we're in Cornwall again.”

“Amazing location and well done out with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating/tables overlooking the estuary. The staff were all very friendly and the service was prompt. Only letdown was the food and drink. I had a Madri beer which tasted watered-down and a little off. The Korean sticky chicken lacked flavour and felt underwhelming for the price. Could be a really special place if the food and drinks were given some more attention. Come for the vibes (not for the meals).”
