Mumbai Local is a modern Indian restaurant in Harrow, on Streatfield Rd, with a menu built around Mumbai street food. The thali arrives with chai included, so the drink is part of the same order. Customer Review Summary
The thali is the dish reviewers raise most, and opinions on it split. Some call it tasty and served in clean surroundings, while another diner got a cold one that came back hot but very salty, with chai that had white bits floating in it. Praise elsewhere centres on food described as fresh, full of flavour and generously portioned. One diner who lived in Mumbai for years calls it authentic and singles out the chaats and starters, and the mixed veg uttapam earns a crispy-base compliment. Complaints are specific and recurring: burnt uttapam and dahl, a chilli paneer heavy with garlic and soya sauce, dry cutlet chaat, overcooked medu vada, and a dahl makhani drowning in oil. A few say consistency slipped after the change of ownership. Others mention slow or rushed service, a discretionary service charge, and smoke that leaves clothes smelling. Friendly, welcoming staff come up repeatedly, and one family lunching on a busy Sunday found the service excellent and the food hot.

“First time i tried this paticular mumbai local. Chilli paneer was over powering with Garlic and soya sauce. Utapam was burnt and dahl that came with this was burnt. No salt in the food at all. Also ordered takeaway for my husband and dahl makhni was drowning in oil. I wont be returning unfortunately.”

“The food was tasty and full of flavour, though it was very spicy. If you enjoy a lot of heat, it’s likely to suit you well. For those who prefer milder food, it’s worth keeping this in mind when ordering. Service was friendly, although a little slow at times. We asked for extra plates and spoons as we were sharing dishes, but it took a while and unfortunately we didn’t receive everything we requested. The plates and cutlery were disposable, which is understandable for a casual spot, though it did make sharing slightly less convenient.”
