About Fryer Tuck
Fryer Tuck is a fish and chips takeaway at 2-4 George St in Halifax, run by the same family for more than 25 years. The kitchen fries in beef dripping, and the fish is haddock or cod. Mushy peas are served on the side, and gravy and curry sauce are available for the chips. Scallops also appear on the menu. The shop opens Monday to Saturday during the daytime and closes on Sundays. Card payments work for Visa and Mastercard only. Street parking outside is contested by residents, and the shop leaves a note on cars parked there.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the fish and chips fried in beef dripping, describing crispy batter, huge portions and tasty mushy peas on the side. Scallops and traditional fish also get a mention, and one reviewer says their kids loved the meal. Service is called quick, friendly and polite by several, and one delivery driver says nothing else in Yorkshire has come close. Complaints are real and varied. One reviewer found the fish slimy in its batter and reports seeing maggots swilled out of the side gate. Another got recooked chips from the night before, a stale bread cake, a wrong order, and gravy and curry sauce so sweet they spiked blood sugar. A third says the fish was a little oily, and another says the chips tasted of old oil. One reviewer describes an undercooked sausage and a note left on a neighbour's car about parking on George Street.

“Pleasant enough service, atmosphere is a standard chippie. Got fish and chips and the fat/ oil was doing off the chip portions. Been before and not had this issue.”

“Visited the store the Friday, requested fish and chips with a sausage. Upon arrival at home, i noticed that my sausage was undercooked and showed signs of what looked to be slimey jelly like substance. However, what has tipped me over the edge is this note being placed on my partners car. In which we have recently moved onto George Street, he works night shifts so finding parking at 5am is extremely difficult. So he resorts to the end of the road which is STILL on George Street, not obstructing any junctions or anything. However, the lovely owners of this shop have decided to cause what could have been a serious accident by putting a note on the side window advising that due to them having a shop not to park when he had parked. Baring in mind, there is a Tesco Car park across the road, the street is 1 way so cars shouldn’t be turning left onto the street, and there is plenty of parking on Wakefield road for customers to park and attend to there services. The owner has reacted in a very childish manner and instead of letting residents of George Street park on their own road, decided to now leave their car parked there 24/7. Which is actually contradicting what there not says. They want that space for customers however there cars going to be parked there all day and night? Sorry but make it make sense. Awful customer service, atmosphere is toxic and do not recommend this to anyone”

“Nice local chippy. I found the service to be quick and friendly. Chips are lovely, fish is a little oily, but still nice. Will come again!”
