“Stayed for 2 nights visiting family. Cannot fault this beautiful place. Met on arrival with welcome and shown to our beautiful room overlooking the Broads. Gardens lovely to sit out with the many ducks. Food exceptional. Had breakfast both mornings. Great choice and all cooked fresh to order. Restaurant menu has plenty of choice and we ate in both evenings. Food again exceptional. All staff really polite and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend.”

“Just stopped for a pint on the way home. Had a Norfolk Adder Cider on tap. Lovely. Its a beautiful location by the river. The outdoor seating is a bit of a mess. Difficult to find a table that was not about to fall apart and the wood came from the Mary Rose. There was a lot of weeds around which could be cut back to improve the view. Service at the bar was slow, there was a wedding on. Just a few little improvements would make all the difference. The wife drove home. Happy days.”

“Today we had lunch at the boathouse for the first time, we were in a large group, including 3 dogs, which we precooked the table for. It was the first time eating there for us all. We were all very impressed with the extensive menu, catering well for vegetarian’s and vegans. The food was delicious along with very good portion sizes. The table staff were very attentive, despite being very busy. Overall very impressed and will definitely be returning.”

“I want to start by saying that this used to be one of my partner's and my favourite places to visit. I've been coming here for over 10 years and even recommended it to a friend as a wedding venue, which she chose because of how highly I spoke of it. Sadly, what was once an amazing venue with excellent food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere has declined dramatically. It now serves very basic meals, the hygiene standards appear to have slipped, and the customer service is among the worst we've experienced. The decline has been gradual, but our last two visits have been unacceptable. On our previous visit, we found plastic in our food. Yesterday's visit was no better. The roast potatoes were rock hard and completely bland, the coffee tasted as though the milk had gone off, and my partner found a hair in his Coke, which was only half full when it was served. The service was equally disappointing. Despite the restaurant being almost empty when we arrived, we waited around 20 minutes before anyone came to take our order while staff stood chatting behind the bar. Throughout our entire meal, not a single member of staff checked whether everything was okay. To make matters worse, when I politely asked for the bill, a young member of staff completely ignored me and continued chatting and smirking behind the bar. After waiting even longer, I eventually gave up and went to pay at the bar myself. The owner, who was once friendly, welcoming, and couldn't do enough for customers, seemed completely uninterested. He simply told me the total—£48 for two tiny roast dinners, each with just two thin slices of meat, and two drinks—without any concern for the poor experience we'd had. It's genuinely disappointing to see somewhere that was once so special fall so far. If you're looking for overpriced food, poor quality, disappointing service, and a lack of attention to hygiene, then this is the place for you. Unfortunately, after more than a decade of loyalty, we won't be returning.”

“I was really excited for our stay at the Boathouse, as the website paints it as a luxurious and relaxing getaway. Unfortunately, our first impression was disappointing. On arrival, there was duck droppings all around the grounds, which immediately put me off. I was hoping the accommodation itself would make up for it, but sadly it didn’t. The lodge is in desperate need of renovation. The leather sofas were very worn and tired, although I must say the kitchen was in good condition and the bedrooms looked reasonably nice. However, I just couldn’t get past the lack of cleanliness. There was a fan in the bedroom, which would have been very welcome during the heatwave, but it was so dirty that I couldn’t bring myself to use it. The bathroom was particularly disappointing. It had a strong musty smell, there were dead insects on the floor, spider webs throughout the shower, and mould that clearly needed attention. It’s a real shame because the location has so much potential, but the level of cleanliness simply doesn’t reflect the luxury experience advertised or justify the price we paid for one night’s stay. On a positive note, the staff were lovely, and the breakfast was excellent. I genuinely wanted to love this place, the website and the many positive reviews really sold it to us, but unfortunately, our experience didn’t live up to the expectations or the cost.”
