Quick info
About Maki & Ramen
Maki & Ramen is a Japanese restaurant in Glasgow, serving from 21 Bath St with more than 15 years in business behind it. The kitchen makes its noodles in house, and the Tori Paitan ramen is served with them. Spicier bowls include the Seafood Hell Ramen, with chilli crisp available as an extra for those who want more heat. Katsu curry is on the menu with a pumpkin option, and maki and sushi sit alongside the ramen. Vegan, vegetarian and non-spicy dishes are listed too, so mixed groups can order from the same menu. The dining room has a gong, and sticky notes cover the walls. Two further Glasgow locations operate on Byres Road and Renfield Street.

Customer Review Summary
Black garlic ramen is the dish reviewers return to, with one praising its deep eight-hour broth and black garlic oil, and a vegan diner calling the vegan black garlic tonkotsu the best vegan meal they have had. Close behind are the spicy ramen, which one family describes as layered rather than aggressive heat, the Seafood Hell Ramen with juicy prawns, and the Tori Paitan, whose soup base one reviewer calls delicious. Pork tonkatsu, pumpkin katsu curry, and avocado salmon maki with fresh salmon also draw praise, and several point to the vegan and vegetarian choices. Criticism is small but specific: one reviewer found the ramen a wee bit warm, another wanted the noodles more al dente, and a third thought the takoyaki a little bland. Staff are repeatedly called friendly. Reviewers describe a waiter chatting in Spanish with a couple visiting from Mexico, and staff being kind to children who wanted a turn on the gong even when the restaurant was packed.

“Absolutely love this place every day of the week and is always my number 1 go-to for office lunch when not WFH. Brought my 2 kids and fiance to try; fiance should have been a chef because he is class, my kids will eat relatively well but sometimes need to be forced this was different! Both LOVED the katsu curry and we adults thoroughly enjoyed the spicy Ramen, my fiance asked for as spicy as possible and asked for 4 extra portions of the chilli crisp. We were not disappointed! Every single ingredient sings and the heat in the Ramen isnt front facing aggressive heat, it's layered. The kids absolutely loved the gong and when staff noticed they were dying for a shot (we were sitting right next to it 🙃🤣) they couldn't have been nicer to them even though the restaurant was MOBBED! A lovely member of staff also complimented on their manners and how respectful and well behaved they were they and that not all kids are like that, which we were so proud to hear 🫶 best all round!”

“The experience at this place was right from the start. Immediately after entering the waiter asked the size of the group, cleaned a table for 2 and gave us the menus. Service was very good. My partner and I are from Mexico and the waiter had a conversation with us in Spanish which was nice. The food was so good, the ramen was delicious, it has become my favorite ramen place and it is such a shame that I would have to travel to Glasgow to try such delicious food. The broth was so good I even wanted to order more even though I was already full. The atmosphere was great and I liked the sticky notes all over the walls giving it a nice decoration”

“Loved this Ramen spot! The appetisers were amazing & the pumpkin katsu curry was great! The ramen was a wee bit warm, would’ve liked it to be a little hot! But loved all the vegan options they have and highly recommend it to vegan/vegetarians!”
