About Wing Wah

A Chinese-style munchy box anchors the counter offer at Wing Wah, a Chinese takeaway on Tollcross Road in Glasgow, served alongside salt and chilli chips and curry sauce sold by the tub. Curries carry much of the menu, with chicken curry and a special curry both on the list, and chips are ordered to go with them. Beyond that, the kitchen turns out chicken wings and chicken balls, mini and crispy spring rolls, and ribs in barbecue and spare ribs Peking style. Orders run on a walk-in basis, with the phone used for placing orders and for questions, which the team passes through to the chef. It trades in the evenings, Monday to Sunday, with Tuesdays closed.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers overwhelmingly come away disappointed, and the curry draws the most complaints. Several describe a watery, almost clear chicken curry or special curry, while another found the curry sauce full of lumpy, congealed bits. Chicken wings and spring rolls are repeatedly said to taste of old cooking oil, and the salt and chilli chicken and chips were called overcooked and overloaded with chilli. Others mention tasteless barbecue ribs, chicken balls too hard to bite through, and a mushroom gravy that was thick and almost black. A few report wrong orders, a curry that arrived very salty, and unpleasant exchanges with a woman at the counter, including one who says she was asked to pay twice. Several say the food went in the bin, and long-time customers say it has declined. One reviewer was happier, praising a hot delivery of curry chicken, Peking-style spare ribs and crispy spring rolls, and said they would order again.

“Not ate out the wing wah in years, was a last resort due to my usual shop being closed. Ordered a chicken curry and fried rice, was kinda ok. The mini spring rolls were rotten, over cooked, hard and could taste the old unchanged oil they must have been cooked in. Salt and chilli chicken was also over cooked and hard, way too much chilli to the point we couldn’t eat them! Salt and chilli chips were the same, too much chilli and tasted like they were cooked in old oil 🤢 also ordered mushroom and gravy, the gravy was way too thick and almost black in colour, it also had a horrible taste to it! In all I spent £30odd pounds for most of the meal to go in the bin. I certainly won’t be back here!! Used to love this shop years ago, it’s sadly went down hill, food is rotten!! There’s way better Chinese shops to order from, I should have maybe read the reviews first.”
