Quick info
About China House Takeaway
China House Takeaway is a Chinese takeaway in Glasgow, at 73 Tollcross Rd, run by owners who previously ran the China House Restaurant. That background carries over to the counter, where the prawn crackers are homemade. The menu includes chicken satay skewers and salt and chilli chips, and chicken curry is served with rice. Orders are placed by phone. Buffet orders are available for groups, which suits gatherings that need a larger spread. Delays are common on weekends, so the kitchen is busiest then.

Customer Review Summary
Chicken dishes draw the most praise, led by a breast chicken curry one reviewer calls the best in a long time and a chicken Maryland another describes as the nicest they have tasted, altered to the customer's taste without fuss. Close behind are satay chicken chow mein, salt and chilli chips, chicken gyoza and a Korean fried chicken, which arrived piping hot and crispy for one returning customer who knew the restaurant under its previous owners. Others single out homemade prawn crackers and good portions. The complaints are substantial. Several describe long delays, one waiting nearly two hours and another an hour plus a further 45 minutes after a second call, with food arriving cold and soggy. Another reports soup spilled over the chips in the bag, a missing gravy that later came out watery, wafer thin prawn toast and tough satay skewers, along with dismissive phone staff. One reviewer reports that the family had sore stomachs overnight after their order. A buffet order won compliments from guests, and the shop added complimentary banana fritters.

“Had to give this a go. OMG the food was amazing it was just like the restaurant was. It is a more pricey but well worth it. I got the breast chicken curry. Best I've had for a long time. Defo be using here again. Thank you for a cracking meal tonight.”

“Heard this business was taken over by the old China House Restaurant owners so I had to give it a try. Arrived piping hot, everything crispy. Just as good as I remembered. Got the satay chicken chow mein, salt and chilli chips, chicken gyoza and they had a new thing on their menu as well so I gave the korean fried chicken a shot. Absolute gorgeous meal I missed the taste of this place. The price is so worth it, we were stuffed!! You really get what you paid for. Will be back soon xx”

“After waiting an hour we called, food still hadn’t been cooked apparently… yet 45 minutes later after a second phone call the food turned up. Cold and soggy having obviously been in the bag somewhere for a long time. Shame because it might have been ok had it not been stone cold”

“Just isn’t what I expected, woman on phone told me my chips were hard because of the sauce! Chicken was like eating a rubber and I feel like £33 it should be up to standard. Now me and the family has been up all night with a very sore belly and we had only had the Chinese. Just not what you pay your money for. Chicken satay more like chicken shitey”
