About The Pearl Chinese(Cumbernauld)
The Pearl Chinese (Cumbernauld) is a Chinese takeaway in Glasgow, based at 5 Auchinbee Way. The shop sits next to Tesco Craigmarloch, which makes it easy to find from the supermarket. The kitchen cooks Cantonese food, and the menu includes chicken curry, with a breast of chicken option, alongside dry salt and pepper chicken and crispy seaweed. Curry can be paired with chips or fried rice from the same menu, so a full meal comes from a single order. The takeaway is open daily, evenings only, so it suits an evening meal rather than a daytime stop.

“Hungover, and desperate for sustenance to cure my hungover corpse, I set off for the Pearl for a delicious meal of chicken breast curry, chips and thin noodles. What happened next shocked me to my very core. I opened my package excited and thought I’d try a chip but I was hit with something that might have been a potato in a past life. Vulgar, greasy, lacking in potato and spirit, I shuddered at the thought of the rest of the meal. The curry was next, I opened it up and to my horror there was a dark curry sauce, lacking in volume, engulfing slop chicken in a rather small container. The sauce didn’t sufficiently cover the rest of my meal, not even close, but at least there was no beak in my chicken. The noodles were the “best” part of the meal, but even they were missing flavour and character. The portions were small and for £11.10, I was bitterly disappointed. I’d like to return to the chips for a moment, it can’t be overstated how terrible they were. They must have been reheated 16 times at least. My son and I won’t be back here, and I recommend you don’t go either. 3.6/10”

“Placed an online order so I didn't have to wait. Got there and they hadn't checked the check machine. Had no idea the order was even there. Annoying but no biggie. Ordered spicy shredded chicken. What I received was not spicy and not shredded and questionable if it was chicken to be honest. Tasted like chicken balls in sweet n sour sauce. Soggy and sickly sweet. I absolutely detest sweet n sour, so that went in the bin. Literally in the bin. So aye, had a bowl of undercooked chips for dinner. Cheers. What a shambles. Not even as if they were remotely busy. Someone said this is the best Chinese in cumbernauld. Was that satire?”

“Avoid at all costs! I was deeply disappointed by the poor customer service we received from this Chinese takeaway. After making a genuine mistake while ordering — one involving an allergy — my son returned to the restaurant to explain. Instead of handling the situation with understanding or professionalism, the staff chose to lecture him at length, insisting on proving he was wrong and making it clear he should not “do it again.” This response was not only inappropriate but also deeply disrespectful and left my son in a very uncomfortable public situation. Allergies are a serious matter, and while we acknowledge our error in ordering, a courteous and helpful response from staff would have gone a long way. Instead, their condescending tone and eagerness to assign blame was unacceptable. Because of the way my son was treated, I returned the full order — completely untouched — and made it clear I didn’t want a refund. One wasn’t offered anyway. Unfortunately, I was met with more of the same attitude: another lecture, not an apology or empathy. Surely respect for customers is the bare minimum one should expect. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this takeaway to anyone who values basic courtesy.”
