About Queen of the South - Hair, Beauty & Aesthetics

Queen of the South, Hair, Beauty & Aesthetics is a beauty salon in Glasgow that works by booked appointment rather than walk-in. Hair services cover cuts and blow-drys, with colour work and half-head highlights available for clients wanting a change of tone. A consultation can be arranged before treatment, so the plan and the hair length are agreed in advance. Waxing runs alongside the hair side of the business, taking in full arms, upper lip and other facial areas. Vouchers and Groupon offers are accepted at the salon, with supplements applied for colour services or for longer hair, which is worth confirming when the appointment is made. The team chats with clients through the appointment rather than working in silence. The salon takes bookings across the week and closes on Tuesdays.

“My wife was left disappointed with the service. Didn’t listen to basic instructions chopped half her hair off. Passive aggressive comments about her hair to other clients. Not professional and charged extra for hair length being long. Won’t be going back and I advise don’t go for their groupon offers.”

“I’ve been coming to this salon for years just because of the owner. I’ve followed her as she set up her space …. It’s the most painless wax in town & quick ! It’s also the space of talking freely and a genuine exchange of words : she’s a comforting angel to me. I’m local to the area and if you’re new to Southside ; I’d say pop in for a consultation and judge for yourself. Five stars; Lovely lady principled and always willing to solve things. I don’t need to go anywhere else. So glad they’re around …”

“Was really disappointed with my service. Hairdresser is very friendly and chatty however lacks ability to follow basic instructions and general lack of knowledge of current hair trends and styles. As someone with huge curly hair specifically told not to thin any hair or take off length. Regardless of what you might think is best its down to what the client wants. A lot of hairdressers just dont know how to work with hair thats a different texture or with people who dont want to look like the picture perfect girls theyre taught to work with. Possibly worst cut I have ever had.”

“I was really disappointed with my experience at this salon. I arrived on time for my appointment but still had to wait 40 minutes, and there was no apology which I found unprofessional. Instead the stylist tried to distract me with compliments, which didn’t feel genuine. My friend gave me a voucher, but I was told I had to pay an extra £30 because for my hair to do the color she suggested the voucher wasn’t enough. I agreed to pay as I trusted her advice, and at first I was pleased because the haircut was nice and even though the color was different from what I expected, it still suited me. Unfortunately, after just three days when I washed my hair with color protection shampoo, the color had already started to fade and I could see my old hair color coming through. This should not happen after paying that amount, especially since I’ve been coloring my hair for 7 years and never had this problem elsewhere. I also noticed the towel and brush used did not seem very clean, and the products looked cheap. The only positive was the haircut, but overall the service and results were very disappointing.”

Customer Review Summary

Cut and blow dry draws the most repeat praise, with several regulars describing sleek results exactly as asked for, and one first-timer singling out a half head of highlights the stylist picked for her. Close behind is the waxing, called the most painless in town and quick by a long-standing client, alongside frequent mentions of kindness, easy conversation and a light, spacious room. The criticism recurs and carries real weight. Several say instructions were not followed: one with curly hair asked for no thinning and no length off and calls it the worst cut she has had, another describes half her wife's hair chopped off, passive aggressive remarks to other clients and an extra charge for length. A colour client reports a long wait with no apology, an added payment on top of a gifted voucher, fade back to her old shade within three days, and a towel and brush that did not look clean. One reviewer reports peeled and swollen skin after facial waxing, saying the concern was dismissed at the chair, and one advises against the discount offers.
